Vikings Beat Pack to Take Division Lead, But Lose Star HB for 7 Weeks

Minneapolis, MN - A rivalry in the real NFL, this has certainly become the case in the Q as well. The 7-2 Vikings squared off against the 7-2 Vikings in week 11; the winner would take sole possession of first place in the North.

The first half of this game was marred by turnovers and bad decisions on offense and/or great plays by both defenses. A 3 and out to start by the Pack would be followed by a quick scoring drive by Minnesota, getting a 43-yard TD run by MVP candidate HB Jarrad Savoie, his 14th of the season. The Packers would fumble after a catch just 2 plays later, setting up Minnesota with great field position. But, a couple of plays later disaster would strike - star HB Savoie would be tackled awkwardly by 2 defenders and was carted off the field. M. Daniel would jump a Teddy B corner route on the very next play to give GB the ball back. However, on the very next play, FS Harrison Smith would INT Aaron Rodger to give the ball right back to Minnesota. The Vikings would again drive deep into GB territory, but were stuffed on a 4th & inches to account for the 4th turnover in the 1st quarter of this game. But, the teams weren't done - another drive by GB was cut short when OLB Barr would intercept Rodgers again, this taking taking it the house for 6! Score after 1 - 14-0 in favor of MN.

Things settled down in the 2nd quarter. The Pack started by putting 3 on the board. Minny would eat up the rest of the 1st half with a long, time-consuming drive and capped it off with a 1-yd TD run by backup HB Demont Still. Score at half: 21-3.

Not much action in the 2nd half. The Vikings D clamped down on the Packers offense all game, holding them to a total of 105 yards on the day. Rodgers had one of the worst days of his career - 8 of 18, 75 yds, 0 TD, 3 INT. Although now in sole possession of 1st place in the North, the bad news for the Vikings - a broken collarbone for Savoie, who won't return in the regular season.

    Final Score:
    Vikings: 24
    Packers: 3
