MJD And Solid Defense Shut Down The Texans

The Jaguars hosted the Texans this week in their 1st division rematch of the season. The Jags and Texans met in week 8 and Jacksonville was able to pull away in a tough contest and win 35-13. The Jaguars had to feel confident knowing that the rematch was at home but they knew the score from Houston didn't represent how close the game was.

It ended up being a fairly similar game though. Yards were tough to gain for both teams but the Jags snatched the early lead in the 1st quarter from a 51 yard Josh Scobee FG. And that would be all the points scored in the 1st quarter.

In the 2nd quarter, QB Blaine Gabbert started to show his potential. There wasn't much room for MJD as the Texans made it a priority to stop him so the Jags needed Gabbert to step up and he did. Early in the 2nd quarter, he connected with Osgood for a TD and a 10-0 lead. The Texans answered though. They moved down the field and got into the red zone but the Jacksonville defense forced them to kick a FG with 1:50 left in the half. Then Gabbert and the Jags were able to put together a key 2 minute drive culminating with a MJD TD run on 3rd down with 3 seconds remaining to make it 17-3 at the half.

After the brief offensive outburst, both teams settled down in the 3rd quarter but the Texans started to move the ball towards the end of the quarter. They again were able to get down into the red zone the Jags defense stood tough again and the Texans opted for the FG rather than attempt the 4th and goal making it 17-6. Then MJD took control and closed out the game. A slow and time consuming drive saw the Jags move down the field and clinch the victory on MJD's 2nd TD at 24-6.

Player of the Game: MJD - His numbers weren't gaudy - just 98 yards and roughly 4 yards/carry - but he was there when the Jags needed him most, forced the Texans to respect the running game, and scored 2 crucial TDs.
