Week 12: Jaguars(24)@Titans(30) Titans Win, but at what cost? The Jacksonville Jaguars visited Nashville this week in the return match ageist the Tennessee Titans. The early season game was won by the jags and steve smith had a career game with 3TDs and 300+ yards so it was obvious what the titans worked on in practice this week. The jags came into the game on a 3 game win streak and were pressuring the colts for the division lead. The titans came in at.500 and in last place in the afc south but spirits were high after last weeks win. The titans deferred the toss and the jags got the ball the start the game. After a 3 and out by the jags, the titans got the ball and drove deep into jags territory with runs by CJ and accurate passes by QB matt cassell. In the redzone the jags defense stiffened up and got a sack to force the FG attempt to make it 3-0. More great defense by the titans forced the jags to punt again but this time the offense looked alot better getting chunks of yardage at a time. With a minute left in the first, Matt Cassell found kenny britt over the middle and got the ball to him in between zones. Kenny big-boyed 3 jags defenders and walked in for the score to make it 10-0. The jags had the ball to open the second but after a interception by SS Hope, the titans got the ball again on the jags side of the 50. Merriman and co. were wreaking havoc in the titans backfield and forced another FG by the titans to make it 13-0. For the rest of the half, turnovers and punts were the norm. After a jags punt, the titans got the ball at there own 20 and Cassell was pummeled as he threw and merriman intercepted it. With 10 yards to the goalline, the jags easily scored to end the half and take all the momentum going to the second half. Half time score in Nashville, 13-7. Cassell and the Titans got the ball first in the second half and were on a nice drive until LB Merrimen came unblocked on a blitz and destroyed matt cassell from the blind side. Not moving, paramedics came and after a delay they carted him off in head restraints to the hospital. Matt Cassel suffered a season ending and maybe career ending herniated disk in his back requiring surgery. After shaking hands with his best friend, Vince young took the field with a one score lead. After some good practices by young in the past weeks, he has been lobbying for more playing time. Under the worst of circumstances, vince young played well and with help from CJ, drove down into jags terrority. On 3rd down, Young found gage on a WR screen and he bowled over a jag defender for the 18 yard score to make it 20-7. The jags rallied and answered with 10 unanswered points with a FG and a TD pass by Mckinley to make it 20-17 going into the fourth quarter. Chris Johnson knew the game was slipping out of the the titans hands with the cassel injury and he knew it was now or never. On the second play after the jags score he ran 69 yards untouched on a toss for the score to make it 27-17 and extended the lead early in the fourth. On the jags next possession, the titans defense relaxed just a bit and on the first play, drew brees rolled out and found Chris Henry wide open deep and scored from 81 yards out to close the gap to three. The titans got the ball and drove on short passes and CJ runs to keep the clock running, but were stopped and had to kick the FG to make it an only 6 point lead with 2:47 left in the game. After a huge pass by drew brees, the jags were in the redzone with 1:30 left in the game, down 6 points. Coach ox decided to use his timeouts to try and preserve as much time as possible if the jags score. Dunlap responded by running and trying to eat the clock and go for the win on a TD pass. After 3 incomplete inside the titans 20, the jags went for the win on 4th down with 30 seconds left. Brees rolled out and forced a pass to a double covered steve smith and finegan batted it away to force the TO on downs. Young returned to the field to take the victory formation and win the game for his fallen friend, 24-30. Stat box (Co-Players of the game are bold) [M. Cassel- 10-19 185yds 1TD 2INT V.
