    Week 12

    Nevada 44
    New Mexico St 16

Nevada came into this weeks game looking to build on the momentum of the past few weeks. They did just that, taking New Mexico St behind the woodshed. New Mexico St started the scoring off in the first quarter on a 14 yard touchdown pass from Jeff Fleming to tightend Kyle Nelson, taking an early 7 point lead. Nevada answered right back on a drive capped by a 3 yard touchdown run by Vai Taua, evening the score at 7 after one. The second quarter was when Nevada started to flex its muscle when Colin Kaepernick hit Rishard Mathews for a 28 yard scoring strike. A 30 yard Jordan Davenport field goal made it 14-10 Nevada. Taua then ripped off his second touchdown on the ground, this one from 10 yards out. Then before halftime, Kaepernick hit tightend Virgil Green from 3 yards out to give Nevada a pretty convincing 28-10 halftime advantage.

The second half started with 2 Nevada field goals which further stretched the lead to 34-10. New Mexico St would finish off their scoring on a 9 yard touchdown pass from Fleming to Todd Lee. A failed 2 point try left the score at 34-16. Another Nevada field goal and a 41 yard fumble returned for touchdown by defensive end Dontay Moch made the final 44-16.

Nevada was led by seniors Colin Kaepernick (10-13 for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns) and Vai Taua (29 carries for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns). Nevada improves to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in the WAC.
