Going into Arrowhead Stadium in week 13 against the 8-3 Kansas City Chiefs, the Carolina Panthers knew they needed a win to try to keep pace in the NFC South. The Chiefs, possessing one of the league's stingiest defenses, came in riding a 3 game winning streak and had only lost once in 6 games at home this season. The Panthers defense though was the story of this game; holding All World halfback Jamaal Charles to just 27 yards on 14 carries and intercepting Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel 5 times on the day, the Panthers D delivered a shutout performance as Carolina emerged victorious 23-0 to move to 6-6 on the season.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton would also bounce back from an abysmal performance in week 12, where he threw 6 interceptions, to have a solid game with 202 yards, 2 TDs and 1 int.

    1st Quarter:

The game started off slow as both defenses flexed their muscles in the first, forcing a turnover and a three and out each.

    2nd Quarter:

The 2nd quarter would be all Carolina, as they struck first with a 45 yard Olindo Mare to take a 3-0 lead.

The Panthers would add to their lead as Newton connected with tight end Greg Olsen for a 14 yard touchdown and a 10-0 lead midway through the 2nd.

After another Mare field goal, from 44 yards out, gave the Panthers a 13-0 lead; the Chiefs would go into their 2 minute drill and moved the ball into Carolina territory. Then a great play for an interception by Panthers rookie cornerback Josh Norman, one of 2 picks he had on the day, would give Carolina the ball back with just seconds left on the clock. Newton would throw a beautiful bomb that traveled around 70 yards in the air and fell into the hands of Panthers speedy halfback Taiwan Jones as Jones was crossing the goal line. 20-0 Panthers at the half.

    3rd Quarter:

The 3rd quarter saw Cam throw his only interception of the game, as he got greedy following a turnover and tried to force a pass to put the final nail in the coffin.

The Chiefs offense though would continue to have no answer for the swarming Panther D, and Carolina was able to tack on another Mare field goal for the 23-0 lead.

    4th Quarter:

The 4th quarter saw the Panthers offense go ultra conservative, protecting their lead and the clock, and the Carolina D finished a very complete game to deliver their first shutout of the season.

The Player of the game for this one is the entire Panthers defense, who stepped up and delivered a great performance when they really needed to. The Chiefs offense was unable to convert a 3rd down on 5 attempts and only had 8:59 time of possession, compared to 19:01 for the Panthers.

The Panthers will host the rival Atlanta Falcons in week 14, in a game that could prove to be a huge factor in the final division standings.
