Tar Heels Hold On, Defeat Miami
Chapel Hill, NC....AP: The North Carolina Tar Heels rebounded off a disgusting week 12 performance to put together a solid game to beat Miami here Saturday. On a chilly night the Tar Heels lost starting running back Giovanni Bernard in the first quarter to a dislocated shoulder. But that didn't stop them from quickly going up 10-0, after a FG, backup tailback AJ Blue slammed in a 3yd TD run. Miami tied it 10-10 but with only 4 seconds left in the half, Brn Renner hit Lawrence Wilkins on a 57 yd TD strike to put up the Tar Heels 17-10 going into half. UNC scored again to go up 24-10 and seemed in control. But a FG and a quick TD by Miami with a failed two point try had them within striking range at 24-19 in the fourth. UNC kicked a FG to go up by seven at 27-19. One last drive was put together by Miami which had them with a first and goal from the 3 yard line with 30 seconds left and no timeouts. This forced the Canes to throw on all four downs. A furious goal line stand ensued capped by a fourth and goal play where soph OLB Shakeel Rashad blitzed up the middle, hurdling the FB attempting to stop him and drilled the Canes QB as he threw to preserve the dramatic victory.
