Bulldogs 2nd half surge takes down conference foe Arkansas

Senior CB Jamerson Love took an errant Davis McElroy pass back for the game winning TD late in the 4th
Starkville, MS - Coach HackGolfer and and the Mississippi State Bulldogs have been on Lady Luck's good side this season and have rode their good fortunes all the way to a 7-4 record thus far. This week's opponent standing in the Bulldogs' way was Arkansas, lead by new head coach BobJr.
After exchanging punts in the first quarter, the Bulldogs put themselves in position to put some points on the board, but a 43 yard FG attempt fell short, giving the Hogs a short field to work with. Arkansas made quick work of their great field position and posted the first score of the game on a 42 yard field goal. On the next Bulldog possession, DT Aaron Haumiller broke free of his block and knocked QB Dak Prescott into next year. The hit jarred the ball loose and Hogs had the ball in the red zone (Arkansas also forced a sack fumble in the 2nd half). A few runs put Arkansas on top at 10-0, which would yield the half time score.
Arkansas would strike again in the 2nd half after Dak Prescott's second fumble on the day and take a commanding 17-0 lead. At this point in the game, things were looking grimm for the Bulldogs, but something finally sparked the offense in gear. Two scores late in the 3rd put the Bulldogs down only 7 heading to the 4th quarter. The two defenses would settle down in the 4th quarter, creating a field position stalemate.
With time being a concern, QB Dak Prescott overcame his earlier turnovers to hit WR Robert Johnson on a 21 yard strike to tie the game up with 1:05 left. Still plenty of time for Arkansas to get into scoring position and win the game in the final seconds. A quick pass on first down moved the Hogs up to their own 33 with just under a minute and with a feeling of confidence that they could win this game.... but then Jamerson Love leaped in front of a David McElroy pass and took it back 42 yards for the score.
Arkansas had one more chance to make their own magic with 41 seconds still remaining on the clock and two timeouts remaining. The Bulldog defense would answer the call and force another McElroy turnover on 4th and long, sealing the victory.
Great game Bob. Looking forward to our rematch next season.
