REDSKINS TIP BUCS 24-20Last minute touchdown propels Skins to victory over Tampa
Fedex Field, Washington, DC.Coach KO and the Redskins finally got off the snide as they were able to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in nip and tuck game that wasnt decided until the final minute. Donovan McNabb was able to find Bobby Wade in the endzone to give the Skins a 24-20 win. The game started auspiciously as the Bucs were able to march down the field on a lengthy drive that ended with a Derrick Ward 18 yard touchdown reception. Coach KO was seen throwing his headset around the stadium as his defense continuously struggled to get off the field. "Fat Albert looked like he smoked 6 cartons of cigarettes out there. Unfortunately, our offense didnt do much to help our defense get rested in the early going. The Skins were able to get something going thanks to a big hit by Laron Landry. He forced a fumble from Jerramy "Bong Hit" Stevens and Brian Orakpo was able to pounce on the ball like a fat kid on a cupcake. Unfortunately, 3 plays later (and zero yards) the Skins settled for a field goal. The offense did however show signs of life in the second quarter and finally punched the ball in with a 4 yard Larry Johnson run. "That drive showed what this offense was capable off. It was good to see. We arent very consistent and thats been the problem." The game would go into half tied at 10.The second half didnt see much action until the 4th quarter when all hell broke loose in the closing minutes. Perhaps the catch of the year candidate came from Devin Thomas as he re-enacted the David Tyree catch exactly. (If I can somehow upload the video I will.) "I wont lie" said Coach KO. " That sparked our team." Two plays later, McNabb found free agent pick up Shaun McDonald for a go ahead score. The problem with the skins this year however has been holding on to late leads or coming back when time allows for it. Tampa took advantage of some shotty defensive calls which lead to another Freeman touchdown pass. This time to Aurelieus Benn to take the lead 20-17. With a little more than 2 minutes remaining, the Skins were forced to do something that many prognosticators thought was impossible. Put together a drive to win the game. Yet thats precisely what they did.McNabb somehow managed a two minute drill effectively completing some huge passes during that stretch. The big pass being the final one as he found a Bobby Wade on a 14 yard touchdown reception to win the game.
