Vikings clinch NFC North with 31-16 win over the Detroit Lions.

2011 was not a good year for the Vikings. They finished 6-10 and tied for last place in the NFC North. But 2012 is a different story. With a win over the Detroit Lions in Week 14, the Vikings would go from worst to first and officially clinch the NFC North division crown.

The Lions came out strong in the first half playing tough defense while managing to convert on two Pettrey FGs. But with less than one minute on the first half game clock, that would quickly change when Vikings QB Eli Manning would find WR Sidney Rice down the left seam and complete a miraculous pass and Rice would do the rest and scamper 73-yds for the score.

Detroit would be the first to score out of the tunnel when Pettrey again connects on a 55-yd FG. But the tides would change and the Viking offense would take the game over and score 17 unanswered 3rd quarter points. Manning would again find Rice for a 56-yd TD and HB Adrian Peterson would find paydirt on a 46-yd TD pass. Steven Hauschka would add a 53-yd FG.

The Lions would not go quietly though as HB Steven Jackson would punch it in from 2-yds out but his counterpart on the other sideline would not be outdone,as Peterson would race 60-yds for the score on an offtackle run.
