DeAngleo & Defense Beat Cards, Sweep the NFC West

    Charlotte, NC- Pepper Hicks Reporting

The Panthers gave their home fans a good show on all-sides of the ball, for their last home game of the regular season. The Game started of with a stripped ball, fumble recovery for 6 on the opening Kickoff. Both offenses struggled for the rest of the 1st Quarter. Cards manage a 20 FG at the end of the 1st to make the score 7 to 3. Then 2nd Quarter Panthers FS Sherrod Martin picked off John Skelton and returned it 57 yards to push the Panthers lead to 14 - 3. After getting the ball back the Offense finally contributed, When Jimmy Clausen (who came in after Matt Moore took a shot and left was out for the game.) found rookie Brandon Lafell who broke a tackle and was gone for a 49 yard Touchdown. The Cards were forced to settle for another FG at the end of the half after a 4th and 1 conversion was called back on a holding call. Panthers go into the Half up 21 to 6.

Panthers got the ball first in the 2nd half and it didn't take them long to score. Jimmy Clausen lofted a ball into the flat while being hit, but Tony Fiammetta got the ball and then manage to scoot down the sideline for 73 yards before being dragged down from behind. The very next play DeAngelo took a run to the out side and scored from 10 yards out. 28 to 6. At this poing Skelton came back into th game after being benched for a few drives for Matt Leinhart and he responded. Moving the ball down the field and setting up a 10 yard TD pass Tim Hightower. Cardinals converted the 2pt conversion and now only trailed 28 to 14. As the 4th quarter started the Cards added another Jay Feely FG, this time a 30 yarder, to pull with 11 points.(28 to 17)

The Panthers needed a big drive on their next possesion. After the Cards managed to keep DeAngelo in check for the most part, he broke out with a 67 yard TD run to seemingly put the game away. Skelton threw his 2nd pick of the game and the Panthers pounded the ball on the ground and add 3 more points with a Kasay 21 yarder with just under 2 minutes to play. The Panthers hung on to win 38 to 17 and are so close to clinching the NFC South for the first time in OMFL history. That win did basically clinch them their first playoffs in their short 4 year history. (Unless Rams/49ers both win out, but tie against each other and Panther lose out.)

Next week the Panthers head out to Pittsburgh were they will look to do 2 things. Win to get 1 step closer to having Home Field advantage throughout the playoffs and to stay healthy. News out of the Panthers camp say that LOLB Jon Beason has recovered from his Broken Jaw. As of now the team has him listed as Questionable but if he's healthy enough to be out there I'm sure he will. Beason being back is good news since both LB's that split time replacing Beason at that LOLB spot went down in this weeks game. Jamar Williams dislocated his kneecap and will miss atleast next weeks game at Pittsburgh. Eric Norwood also went down with a fractured foot and he will be out for the rest of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if you see Norwood go on IR in the next couple of days to make room for some depth at the LB position.
