With both teams needing a win in this one to stay in playoff contention, it was the Falcons who pulled it out in the 2nd half for the victory.

The first half of this game was a back and forth battle. The Falcons took the opening kickoff and marched downfield, only to get stalled in the Jaguars Red Zone, and on 4th and inches inside the 20, they decided to kick the field goal after a near 5 minute drive to put them up 3-0. But it only took the Jags a couple of plays to score a TD as MJD bursted a 79 yard TD run about 30 seconds later to put the Jags up 7-3. The Falcons then had a quick drive of their own, tossing the ball downfield before Matt Ryan found Tony Gonzales for a 33 yard TD strike to make it 10-7 at the end of the 1st quarter. After forcing a Jaguars punt, Matt Ryan threw an INT, which on the very next play was forgiven, as Blaine Gabbert threw one right back. But the TO would not lead to any point as the Falcons had to punt it away. The Jaguars then took the ball down field behind MJD and got a FG to tie it up with 3:41 left in the half. The Jags D stiffened up, forcing a 3-and-out to get the ball back before half. They went downfield quickly and MJD ran for his second TD of the game, this time from 28 yards out to make it 17-10 Jaguars with only 1:53 left in the half. But before the half was over, Matt Ryan drove the Falcons downfield and hit Roddy White with a 14 yard TD strike to even things up before the half.

There was not nearly as much scoring in the second half, as each team's defense started figuring out the other's offense. On the opening drive for the Jags, Brent Grimes picked off a deep Gabbert throw to give the Falcons the ball back. After an exchange of punts, the Falcons then drove down the field again, and Matt Ryan hit Roddy White on another TD pass, this time from 39 yards out to give the Falcons the lead again, 24-17. After a couple plays, Gabbert tried scrambling for a first down and was hit and fumbled, recovered by Ray Edwards of the Falcons, to give them the ball deep in Jags territory. It didnt take long for the Falcons to find the end zone, and Michael Turner pushed on across the line from 1 yard out to make it 31-17 Falcons, just before the start of the 4th quarter. The Jags tried driving, but after a first down, Gabbert was sacked twice forcing a punt back to the Falcons. The Dirty Birds, pinned deep in their own territory, tried to throw a pass against the blitz, but Ryan was sacked and fumbled the ball, which was recovered by the Jaguars at the Falcons 9 yard line, getting them back in the game. A few plays later, MJD ran in his 3rd TD of the contest with 3:48 left to play, making the score 31-24. The Falcons would not relinquish control of the football again, as Turner ran for a few first downs, and Ryan threw for one, and eventually the Falcons could kneel on it giving them their 10th win of the season and kept them in front in the Wild Card race in the NFC.
