Rams started off with the ball and ended up with a FG. On SF's first play, QB Smith was hit as he threw and the ball ended up in the hands of DL Ryan for 6. However the Niners would answer on their next possession with a 45yd bomb to WR Jones for 6. In the 2nd, with SF's defense stepping up, they were able to put together two long drives, both ending in 1yd TD runs by RB Gore and QB Davis. STL was able to score with about a minute left, thanks to a 25yd reception from WR Robinson. 21-17 at the half.

Defense was the story in the 3rd. With SF pinned back on their 5yd line, a heavy blitz left RB Gore wide open for 93yd run TD, only score in the 3rd. The 4th saw a FG from SF, and a nice drive from STL capped by a TD run by RB Jackson. RB Gore was a stud though in the final minutes, picking up all the first downs. Final score 31-24
