HAWKS EDGE 49ERS IN OT View attachment 5384 The Seattle Seahawks playoff hopes may be shattered but don't tell that to coach Pete Caroll. He told his players to hold their heads up high & finish the season on a positive note. The Hawks hosted their arch rivals the San francisco 49ers at home, trying to sweep the series. The game got off to a shaky start going back & forth leaving the 1st quarter scoreless. However the 2nd quarter heated up with a seattle pick six going up 7-0. The 49ers soon answered back with a 36 yrd Frank Gore TD, but the hawks countered back with a Whitehurst 39 yrd TD pass to TE Z. Miller ending the half 14-7. The 3rd quarter only yielded a 49er TD pass by Smith to tie the game 14-14 but it came with a steep price Frank Gore got crushed by the defense leaving the game with 2 broken ribs. RB Marshawn Lynch went into beast mode tacking on a 30 yrd rushing touchdown with 53 seconds left in the 4th. However Alex Smith & 49er offense refused to give up. Smith threw a desperate deep pass that was tipped by 2 Seattle defenders only to be caught by J.Morgan setting up a 16 yrd TD pass by Smith with 2 seconds left in the game. Overtime turned into a defensive tug of war going back & forth the 49ers missed 2 crucial 4th down conversions one late in OT leaving the Hawks with great field position & one last possible drive to seal the game before time expires. Amazingly Whitehurst scrapped together a offensive strike deep into 49er territory setting up kicker J. Reed with a 49 yrd game winning FG attempt with 3 seconds left in overtime. Lifting the Seahawks past the 49ers sweeping the 2 game series on the season.
