With the Falcons already having clinched a playoff spot, the only meaning for this game was to either be the 5 seed or potentially the 6 seed if they lose. The Falcon starters played the first half, and played well on defense and offense. Matt Ryan threw a TD pass to Roddy White on the first series for the Falcons, but then proceeded to throw 3 picks in the half as Bucs defenders jumped the routes. But after a Bucs TD to tie it up, Michael Turner busted a long run of 53 yards for a TD, and Matt Ryan hit Roddy White again from 10 yards out to give the Falcons a 21-7 halftime lead.
And that was enough of a lead for all of the Atlanta starters to get pulled, and the 2nd stringers still dominated the Bucs. JaQuizz Rodgers busted a 68 yard TD run and a 1 yard run, while Chris Redman hit Harry Douglas on a 5 yard pass for a TD to make the game 42-7 in a true blowout. The Bucs offense only had one turnover, but could also only manage just over 100 yards of offense and 6 first downs in the game.
