Panthers Beat Falcons, Win Home Field Advantage

    Pepper Hicks, Reporting

The Panthers went into Atlanta looking to win their final regular season game and grab the number 1 seed out of the NFC. Panthers started out hot grabbing a 14 ro 3 lead in the first quarter thanks to a 58 yard TD from Matt Moore to Steve Smith and also a 71 yard TD run by DeAngelo Williams. Both Defenses stepped up in the 2nd, forcing punt after punt. Until the Falcons pulled within 4 thanks to a Matt Ryan to H. Douglas from 57 yards out, with under a minute remaining in the first half. Then DeAngelo took things in his own hands grabbing a pass in the flats juking one defender and breaking tackles along the sideline before scampering for a 80 yard TD. This play was really the turning point in the game.

The 2nd half the Panthers extended their lead adding another Steve Smith TD and TD pass to TE Jeff King who hurdled a defender on his way into the endzone. The Falcons would manage a late 3rd quarter score when Matt Ryan found his favorite target Roddy White for a 5 yard TD. Panthers would add a 8 yard DeAngelo TD run before running the clock down on their way to a 41 to 24 win over the Falcons.

The Panthers grab the #1 seed in the NFC and will wait to see if they face the Giants or Saints in the Divisonal round.
