Both teams came into this Week 2 matchup with 1-0 records and looking to grab early sole possession of the NFC South. The Bucs got on the scoreboard first when WR Russell Shepard was able to beat the Saints press coverage and 2nd Yr. QB Kyler Barnes hit Shepard in stride and he raced toward the endzone for the 67yd TD. The Bucs defense would would not be outdone by their offense as Bucs rookie free-agent CB Ira Albury picked off QB Drew Brees for his first NFL interception and one quick spin later he was in the endzone giving the Bucs an early 14-0 lead. The Saints veteran roster would not go quietly into that sweet night as they went on a 17-0 run in the 2nd and 3rd quarters which included a couple amazing catches by Saints WR Brandin Cooks and hard nose running by HB Mark Ingram. As the minutes in the 4th quarter flipped away the Bucs defense were able to force a Saints punt and on the first play of that subsequent drive, Barnes found TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins down the right seam and one broken tackle and 75-yds later the Bucs grabbed the lead, 21-17. The Saints offense minus QB Drew Brees, who suffered a collarbone injury earlier the game, took the field with less than 2minutes left and were able to mount a great drive into the redzone but a last second pass breakup by the Bucs defense sealed the victory. GG ThaBayouChef . Sorry about Brees bro but Cousins played really well. Looking forward to the rematch.
