Vick's return to Atlanta was trumped by a last second hail mary pass to give the Falcons the victory and steal Vick's thunder! Atlanta came out in their 70's throwback uni's for their home opener against the "Dream Team" Eagles and Michael Vick. It started out poorly for the Falcons though, as Matt Ryan threw an interception on the second play of the game to new Eagle DRC. The Falcons defense stepped up and held the Eagles to a FG. The rest of the 1st quarter was pretty dry, though, as each team was still feeling the other out. After the first quarter it was the Eagles 3 and the Falcons 0. The Falcons held the ball for most of the 2nd quarter. After a Vick interception started the Falcons deep in their own territory, Michael Turner and the Falcons offense held the ball on a long drive which culminated with a Turner TD run from 2 yards out with 1:57 left in the half (kick blocked). After a quick 3-and-out by the Eagles, Matt Ryan threw his 2nd interception of the game to DRC, and he took it 46 yards for an Eagles defensive TD. On the Falcons next possession, newly acquired CB Vontae Davis, picked off another Matt Ryan throw and took it all the way down to the Falcons 9 yard line, TD saving tackle by Eric Weems. That tackle proved to be huge as the Falcons would hold the Eagles to a FG, taking it into half with the score, Eagles 13 Falcons 6. The Eagles got the ball to start the second half, but neither team could do anything with it until Michael Turner scored his 2nd rushing TD of the game to tie it 13 apiece. The Eagles were not messing around on their next drive though, as Vick led them down the field, taking a lot of time off the clock, leaving Reggie Bush with an easy 1 yard TD run to put the Eagles ahead 20-13. The Falcons would drive down the field quickly though, until Michael Turner coughed one up at the Eagles 25 yard line. But again, the Falcons defense was up to the challenge, forcing an Eagles punt. Matty Ice, then took the Falconsoffense on his shoulders and drove back down the field, throwing a TD pass to Roddy White from 25 yards out to tie the game with only 1:25 left on the clock. The Eagles got big plays from their RB's, catching the ball out of the backfield and bringing them into Falcons territory with :11 seconds left in the game to set them up with a game winning, 58 yard field goal by Alex Henerey...or so they thought. After a touchback, the Falcons emptied the backfield, leaving Roddy White 1-on-1 with DRC down the right side of the field. Ryan hucked it up there, DRC tipped it, and White caught it behind him and ran it in for the game winning 80 yard TD with only :01 left!!! It was a great game, and both teams played well.
