Utes stay hot with 43-15 win over rival BYU

In another conservative offensive attack, the Utes move to 2-0. Buckley, Pettit and DeLoach each received over 10 carried while it was Buckley who lead the way with 112 yards including a 59 yard score. Pettit and Buckley each reached the endzone twice on the day. Nixon was safe with the ball but his lack of arm strength showed in a major way today as he cannot get the necessary lift on the deep balls. Lucky almost all fell to the ground but one was pulled in by the defense. Joseph Sisk was the only WR with multiple catches and one was a 26 yard score.

The defense played on the the better games it has played since converting to a 3-4. BYU QB Tim Oliver was very accurate and still managed to go 21/32 with an average of 12.1 YPC but the only TD came on a WR with both feet out of the endzone that somehow was overturned to be a TD. All in all, Senior Captain Josh Daniels pulled in an int and freshman phenom Stephen Johnson snagged his first 2 career picks and almost reached the endzone. Hollins and Andre Johnson forced fumbles that Whitaker and Sands recovered. Sands and fellow DT Fred White each got to Oliver for sacks.

it is a great win for the team and a confidence builder as they head to the week 3 bye and then begin conference play

Lol I don't even remember playing this game so please excuse the 2 point conversions..
    WSU - 28
    Ark St - 21
Washington State escaped a near upset tonight, but their overall skill was enough to break the Arkansas State defense.
The Cougars got out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter following a 92 yard fumble return for a TD by Junior Shane Campbell. Not really sure what happened on this play, but the Cougars went for two apparently and didn't convert. Shortly after Sophomore QB Tim Todd reached the endzone with a 4 yard TD run.
Arkansas State was able to get on the board with :12 left in the first quarter on a 1 yard pass play, and then again just before the half with :17 seconds on a 4 yard pass. However, Todd was able to pull back the lead for Washington State with a 29 yard TD pass to Senior Jorge Morgan with 1 second left in the half.
Last season, Morgan seemed to be the guy getting the ball a lot and making big plays. At the beginning of the season I wasn't sure if he'd be the guy once again, but it appears that he will be. In just 2 games Todd has complete 7 passes to Morgan for 174 yards and a TD, while connecting with 7 other receivers that have no more than 2 catches.
    Second Half
The Third quarter was scoreless with Washington State clinging on to a 6 point lead. It wasn't until 1:40 left in the fourth quarter that QB Todd throws a 60 yard TD pass to Senior WR Nick Campbell - 2 point conversion good. Arkansas State found the end zone again on a short TD pass, but with only :22 seconds left in the game it was too late to make a comeback.
Sophomore QB Tim Todd had another All American performance, throwing for 222 yards and 2 TDs while adding another TD on the ground.
Next week the Cougars make the trip to Ann Arbor to get a chance against Michigan.

UCLA runs all over Clemson with a 34-6 win. The Bruins, known for their passing offense hasn't been clicking the first two games but they have zero problems running the ball so far. The Bruins led at one point 24-0 thanks to their stellar defense. The Bruins are playing better than anyone expected after their two average seasons. The Bruins are ready for Pac-12 play so they can show the nation what they are made of.

    OSU 41 - UNC 10

After a tough loss against UNC last season, OSU looked to rebound and seek revenge. OSU came out firing on all cylinders. QB Smith did a great job commanding the offense and not forcing any throws into double coverage. RB Murphy eclipsed 100 yards for the 2nd time this season. OSU spread the ball around to multiple receivers and several running backs received carries in the blowout win against UNC.

The defense played lights on all game. Though they gave up 10 points in the game, OSU only allowed 1 touchdown throughout the game and completely shutdown UNC on third down. UNC was 1-10 on third down conversion. Also, UNC was not able to get anything going in the second half.

OSU heads into a bye week three before heading to rival Washington for a week 4 match-up. The week 4 game should be the game of the week as both teams should be in the top 5. This game could also give the winner a leg up in the Pac-12 North.

    Colorado 34
    Nebraska 27

Colorado pulls another come from behind win and beats their rivals in Lincoln. The Cornhuskers went up 20-0 on the Buffaloes, but Colorado fought hard to come back. It started with a field goal, then two touchdown passes to cut the lead to 27-17 going into the half. Colorado would start the 2nd half off with a field goal, then would finally catch a break and picked off a pass that led to another touchdown as the 3rd quarter ended to tie the game at 27. The Buffaloes knew they would need one more stop, and got it, and the ball back with under 3 minutes to go. The Buffaloes would come up with a drive that would result in their last touchdown, and their first lead of the game, 34-27. The Buffaloes would intercept a pass and kneel it out on the next possession to seal the win.

*note- Either Nebraska has the best DT in the nation, or my line is the worst. 5 sacks, 6 TFL, and got to my QB a lot more than just that. It was crazy.

    Arizona 26
    Syracuse 10

The Wildcats of Arizona improve to 2-0 on the season with a convincing win over Syracuse last saturday. The Cats relied on solid defense and their ground and pound offensive attack to help avenge last years loss to the Orangemen. Behind the legs of sophomore Rob Bell, the Wildcats moved the ball effeciently all day. Senior QB Corey Mitchell was mediocre at best with a 9 of 22, 145 yd, 1td and 1 int performance, When ESPN Alex Van Pelt caught up with Mitchell he was quoted as saying "I missed on way to many open recievers, and at times held on to the ball a little too long. Thankfully its still early in the season and we'll work out the kinks in our passing game in practice this week." In spite of today's effort Mitchell has been pretty solid in the first 2 games throwing for 500 yds, 5 td's against only 2 ints. On the defensive side of the ball, the Wildcat D on gave up 1 td and a field goal and seemed to smother the Orange all day. Senior punter Andy Morris was stellar making 4 of 4 field goals, 3 from 40+ and one more from 19 yds out.
Arizona will look to take their win streak to 3 games win they travel to West Pointe and take on the Black Knights of Army.

Defense Shines: Cook's Fumble Return for a TD Silences Tigers

Coming off a 40-14 victory over a solid Illinois squad Cal's schedule didn't get any easier as they headed to Jordan-Hare Stadium to take on the #1 Auburn Tigers. Cal blew out Auburn when they were ranked #1 the previous season in Berkeley. The grudge match was tabbed "Game of the Week" and many experts felt Cal may have a chance to upset Auburn, but they would have to play a VERY good football game. The first quarter was very defensive as the only points came on a Bobby Jones field goal to give Cal a 3-0 lead at the end of the first. Cal's offense was moving the ball much better than Auburn. The second quarter the Golden Bears added 10 points and shut out the Tigers on offense. True Freshman WR Jason Taylor was wide open in the back of the end zone and Marlon Davis found him for a 12 yard touchdown score. Bobby Jones added his second field goal with under a minute left in the half. Cal lead 13-0 at the break.
California's rushing attack was beginning to pick up steam in the second half after being held in check all game. RB Shaun Young was running over many Auburn defenders, and once worn down HB Brenton Smith was beating the defense with his speed. The offense was forced to punt on their first drive and the Tigers finally got something going on offense with the hurry up. Auburn's RB Wright made a BEAUTIFUL juke move after catching a screen pass, and he was GONE! Auburn cut the lead to 13-7. Cal responded with points of their own with another Bobby Jones field goal. Cal lead 16-7 against the #1 team in the nation heading into the fourth quarter.

    [IMG] California 3 10 3 14 - 30
    [IMG] Auburn 0 0 7 6 - 13

It looked like Auburn was going to add another touchdown as they got down inside Cal's 25 yard line. On a screen pass that QB Matthews forced was dropped and ruled a fumble. MLB Ryan Cook came sweeping in to scoop up the football and took it the distance for a TOUCHDOWN! Cal now lead 23-7 and the upset looked solidly secured. Auburn refused to give up and added a touchdown with 2:46 left on a 7 yard pass to WR Jenkins. The Tigers failed on the two-point attempt and didn't recover the onside kick. Brenton Smith added the final points of the game on a 2 yard rushing touchdown, and Cal lead 30-13 as time expired. The defense played phenomenally for the second straight week, and Cal heads into the bye week was some much-needed early season momentum.
    NOTABLE PLAYER STATISTICS
*POTG* K Bobby Jones- 3/3 FG, Long of 32, 3/3 EP
RB Brenton Smith- 19 Car, 99 Yds, 1 TD
RB Shaun Young - 19 Car, 88 Yds
MLB Ryan Cook- 76 yard Fumble Return TD

    Week 2
    Huskies Cruise Against Boston College
    [IMG]
Things started off slowly for both teams in this one, with no score going into the second. Kyle Davis once again made some early mistakes, including a couple of interceptions. He managed to bounce back, as he did in week 1, and went on to have a terrific game (while he was in there).
James Moore caught a short TD pass to begin the second quarter, which gave the Huskies some life as they started playing with some passion. They tacked on a FG and a TD off of a long 51 yard TD pass to sophomore Danny Hudson. BC managed to put up their lone TD of the game with a 40 yard pass to Ryan Watkins. McNamara caught a deep pass before the half, making it a 24-7 Washington lead.
Davis threw one more TD to Moore before the offensive starters were benched. BC could never recover, as Washington eventually benched their defensive starters as well. The Huskies come out on top 59-7 over BC, and look finely tuned and ready for a tough Oregon State team next week.
