I wanna keep things more organized and easy to find so we need separate threads per week
Aztecs Roll to Victory
In a dominant performance, the Aztecs beat Rivals San Jose State in a crushing 45-21 route. Forcing 10 punts and holding the Spartan offense to just 186 total yards all game sums up the dominant performance. Had it not been for two short fields, the score may reflect the performance better.
Bradley got the start at QB, although the two continued a rotation. Both QBs struggled with accuracy throughout the game but Bradley put together the impressive statline going 8/20 for over 200 yards and 5 TD passes while Andrews went 6/18 for 130 yards and 1 TD with 2 interceptions. With a huge conference matchup next week, the team may not have any more time to pick a QB and may have to make a choice. Through two games, each QB has well over 300 yards (388/463) and Bradley has 6 TDs to Andrews 4 but Andrews possesses the higher completion percentage.
Something that was lacking in week one was the running game and Jovan Hudson pounded out a good day on the ground going for 124 on 21 carries. Still, the attack does not feel threatening. and with the shaky QB play, a ground game would help the young QBs settle in. unfortunatly, Hudson is not the home run hitter that Jackson was the past 4 seasons. In his 3rd season now, Hudson has only broke off three runs over 20 yards with a career long of 38 and is not known for breaking tackles. In his two games starting, he has already surpassed his season high in yards.
Although the receivers dropped a recorded 6 for the 24 incompletions, they still managed to catch 6 TDs, coming from 6 different players. Marcus Russell is clearly the leader of the receivers but the focus of the offense is to spread the ball around. Russell leads the team with 11 receptions and 233 yards but three other receivers each have over 6 grabs and over 160 yards. Redshirt Freshman Seth Anderson leads the group with 3 touchdowns.
The defense again played at a very high level. The defensive line has been outstanding as Everett Beed recorded two more sacks to get him to 4 on the year. (the team leader had 5 all last year). Holman came up with a late game sealing INT. The defense only gave up one play of over 20 yards, which was a weakness last year. With only one forced turnover today, the team is back to an even turnover margin on the year, another weakness from past seasons.
Next week will come the season's biggest challenge as the team is on the road to face the Air Force powerhouse. Last years matchup was a close competition won on a lsat second field goal. This years matchup is expected to take on a new look as the Aztec defense is played at a high level while the offense is shaky. With the Aztecs ranked 25th and the Falcons sitting at 24, the winner of this matchup is expected to take a significant lead towards taking the conference title and potentially a BCS birth
