Another very good week for Chompions League, with everyone moving into the winner column. Ohio State and Notre Dame take on their first real challenges against Cal and Michigan State, while Arkansas looks to become the second user team to take down Alabama in this early college football season.

    thumbnail-1.aspx.jpeg Florida Atlantic Owls (2-0) VS #5 Georgia Bulldogs (2-0) thumbnail.aspx.jpeg

This week Florida Atlantic will travel to Sanford Stadium to face the Bulldogs. This game doesn't look promising for Florida Atlantic as they will be facing a stingy Georgia defense. Graham Wilbert, FAU's senior QB, was quoted saying "This game could go either way, I wouldn't count us out just because we are a 4 touchdown underdog." FAU has beaten Mid Ten St. and an FCS team so far this season. They struggled in the Mid Ten St. game. The last thing FAU's players should be doing is talking to the media, they should just play and hope for the best. Georgia has remained relatively quiet for the #5 team in the land. They have shown flashes of greatness in just the 2 games they've played so far, but they have a long way to go. I suspect this will be an easy win for Georgia. This is the last non-conference game Georgia will play until November 17th so they need to come out and lay the wood to FAU early so they can get ready for the heart and soul of their schedule. A grueling task awaits Georgia. So much can be gained, but so much can be lost. The stakes are high.

King of the SEC, Georgia wins 3rd in a row!

There were many good players that capitalized for Georgia in the win vs FAU, but none bigger than Tavarres King. For the second week in a row he made is presents felt by taking a kickoff to the house. This time it came on the opening kickoff, 97 yards to the house. He finished the game with 213 All-Purpose yards. Other honorable performances go to Ken Malcome who came back after a mild concussion this week. He had 124 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. Keith Marshall, the true freshman, also deserves some love. He had 43 yards rushing and a score. Not as good as last week, but not to shabby for a backup. Aaron Murray shined as always. Threw for 188 yards and 2 TD's. Georgia played an all around great game.

Next week they will take on Vanderbilt at home. Vanderbilt is currently 0-2, but this is SEC play and anything can happen.

Welcome to week 3 and the 2-0 Va Tech travel on the road for the first time this year to play the Pittsburgh Panthers, who coming of a lost in their conference opener against Cincy. "We must pack our defense when you play road games" says Coach Ransom. So far the Va Tech defense has been good as advertised coming into the season while the offense is coming along after their performance last week at home. The Hokies dont play another road game into mid-October so this will be a good test for the Hokies as they try contain the Pitt ground attack.

    Statement Win for Buckeyes

The preseason hype surrounding Ohio State stressed the new. New coach, new offense, new attitude. But we should have been expecting more of the same. Defensively, the Buckeyes are once again amongst the best in the nation.

Defensively, Ohio State stymied the high-powered California offense all night. Defensive coordinator Luke Fickell's called an aggressive game after Golden Bear backup Allan Bridgeford entered the game in place of the concussed Zach Maynord early in the first quarter. The decision payed off as the silver bullets recorded six sacks and forced one turnover while winning the field position battle and getting off the field on third downs. "We knew it would be a tough situation for (Bridgeford), on the road at night, he wasn't expecting start after all. We wanted to give him a different look every play by blitzing from different angles with different players. It helps when you have defensive ends that can drop and play coverage though."

OSU linebackers had their best game of the season. Curtis Grant led the team with 12 tackles and Ryan Shazier recorded two of the Buckeyes six sacks. Grant also had an interception in the first quarter that led to an OSU field goal. Grant had a disappointing freshmen season but is starting to show his true potential and leads the team in tackles through three games.

Offensively, Ohio State looked better but still struggled with turnovers. Braxton Miller threw three interceptions and had his worst game of the year and had his worst performance rushing the ball as well. Each of Miller's interceptions led to California scores. The more impressive part of that statistic however is that the Buckeye's defense kept California out of the endzone on those three redzone possessions. Carlos Hyde had a breakout game offensively, carrying the ball 11 times for 180 yards and a 72-yard touchdown. Most of his work came out of the pistol which we had seen little of in the first two games. If Jordan Hall continues to struggle, we could be seeing more of Hyde in the pistol.

Next week Ohio State hosts UAB, their final warmup before stepping into Big 10 play.

    Key Performers

Braxton Miller: 10/17 for 128 yds, TD, 3 INT. 15 Car for 45 yds, TD.

Carlos Hyde: 11 car for 180 yds, TD.

Jake Stoneburner: 4 cth for 54 yds

Curtis Grant: 12 tks, 8 solo, INT

Ryan Shazier: 8 tks, 4 solo, 2 sacks

The Virginia Tech Hokies came out and dominated the Pittsburgh Panthers from start to finish as they won they game 34 to 3. Coach Ransom got what he wanted in this game as the defense came to play in their first road game of the year. The defense forced 3 INT'S with two of them taking back for touchdowns. The Va Tech defense got to the QB a grand total of 10 times with All-American candidate James Gayle leading the team with 4 sacks. They manhandled the Pitt on both sides of the ball as the rushing attack is picking up steam from the success they had last week. Logan Thomas had a good day passing going 11 of 16 for 225 and 2 TD's and senior WR Dyrell Roberts had 3 receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown. A good win for the Hokies as next week they come back the Blacksburg to face the Bowling Green Falcons.

IRISH FALL SHORT AGAINST SPARTANS IN MEGAPHONE SHOOTOUT

In a game where neither offense could be stopped, the Michigan State Spartans forced two key turnovers to exact revenge after last year's beating in South Bend. After trailing 24-13 at half, the Fighting Irish cut the deficit to three heading into the fourth quarter and looked to be in prime position to take a lead. With 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Michigan State CB Jonny Adams felt differently, snatching an attempted connection between Tommy Rees and Robby Toma and running it back for a 26-yard TD to extend the Spartans lead back to ten. The Irish kept fighting, but in the end Michigan State came out on top, 52-49.

The Irish outgained the Spartans 551-483, largely in part to a 427 yard and 5 TD performance by Rees. For the second straight game, Rees spread the ball around allowing 3 Irish receivers to reach the 100 yard mark on the day. TE Tyler Eifert led the charge with 116 yards on 8 catches while WR DaVaris Daniels caught 5 passes for 107 yards and two scores. On the ground, Cierre Wood gained 122 yards and two scores on 17 carries thanks to a big 78 yard TD run in the third quarter.

Notre Dame had no answer defensively against their first big-time opponent as they allowed RB Le'Veon Bell to pick up 254 yards on the ground. The Irish had a hard time tackling all day as QB Andrew Maxwell spread the ball around to his tight ends to the tune of 224 yards and 4 TDs. Maxwell also completed 77% of his passes.

The Irish don't get much of a break as they head home to take on jandy and an undefeated Michigan squad in South Bend. Look for the defense to get a lot of reps in practice this week as they need to sure up their tackling against a slippery Michigan rush attack.

Arkansas Wins Thriller in Double OT Against Alabama, Wins 52-45
    Untitled.png
This game was a shootout until the very end, then it took double overtime for the Hogs to pull out a victory in double OT. Razorback QB Tyler Wilson have a great game going 24 for 39, throwing for 449 yards and 5 touchdowns with no interceptions. The Razorbacks had a 38-28 lead heading into the 4th quarter but that proved to be no match for the Crimson Tide who held the Hogs scoreless and forced overtime. After both teams went TD for TD in the 1st overtime a 2nd overtime was needed. Arkansas would score first on a 4 yard TD run by Kierro Small. Then the Razorback defense would step up and stop Bama on 4th down the next drive.

After the game Bielema was questioned why his starters were in after halftime with a 24 point lead. He was quoted as saying "We had things we needed to work on after the close win vs Oregon State, things that need to be worked out at game speed. O'Brien needed to gain some confidence in his wide receivers and the o line needed to start becoming more consistent. Which, I believe, we made a huge leap forward in both areas. We are still a long ways away before we start talking about another B1G title."

The Defense stifled the Aggies Offense holding them to 155 Yds of total offense. Cromartie came up with 2 Ints and Borland racked up 14 tackles. Yet again Abbrederis scored on special teams and this time lightning struck twice, once on a 48 Yd punt return and again on a missed FG, which was taken back 108 Yds!

The Badgers will get one more warm-up game vs UTEP before kicking off B1G play against Nebraska

I gotta say I'm proud to be the first schmuck to lose to the computer. For anyone that may cross paths with the Spartans this year, don't take them lightly.

Yeah Wilson is a beast, well the receivers are helping him out a lot. I have a great set of receivers to choose from. Alabama's running back is nasty though. It seemed like he was over 60% of their offense. Kind of dissapointed in my defense tho, we couldn't tackle or anything, plus we gave up a 10 point lead heading in to the fourth quarter.
