Dolphins bounce back from 17-0, stun Browns 31-28

Lord and savior, Sean Smith, picked off a curl route that would have put Cleveland in position for a game-winning field goal

Cleveland (OH) -- The 0-2 Browns welcomed in the red hot, 2-0 Dolphins on Wednesday night, but the first 10 minutes of the game would have viewers contemplating whether the records were merely mistakes.

The Browns came out and made a statement by forcing turnovers and not creating any of their own. Before the Dolphins knew what hit them, they were down 17-0.

"Henne was off his game tonight," said Head Coach Matt Davis about his young QB. "He was one bad series away from being benched. And we told him that."

It wasn't until the 1:56 mark of the 2nd quarter that the Dolphins even put points on the board. Reggie Bush's 6-yard touchdown run cut the lead to 17-7 but with just under 2 minutes left in the half the Dolphins knew they needed another chance to score, especially since Cleveland would receive the third quarter kickoff.

The Dolphins got their stop and were able to march down the field and get inside the Brown 5. With 18 seconds left, Larry Johnson ran the ball in from one yard out to send the Dolphins into the locker room down 3, but with momentum.

"Those touchdowns were absolutely huge," said Brandon Marshall. "The difference between 17-7 and 17-14 -- in your mind -- is just huge. We didn't play a good half of football at all, yet we are still only down 3."

The 3rd quarter began with both defenses stepping up and making plays. It wasn't until the 4:42 mark that Henne hit Marshall on a slant for the go-ahead touchdown.

But just over a minute later the Browns would march right down the field to tack on 3 points to make it a 21-20 ball game.

The Browns open the 4th with a great defensive stand and a great offensive drive ending in a Hillis touchdown and a successful 2-point conversion to go up 28-21.

The Dolphins looked defeated as they could not muster any offense, especially since Reggie Bush was lost for the game early on in the second quarter. Facing a 3rd and long from midfield and with star WR Brandon Marshall on the sidelines due to fatigue, the Dolphins looked like they were about to drop from the ranks of the undefeated.

That was until 24-year-old Marlon Moore from Florida State subbed in for Marshall and smoked Joe Haden on a streak which Henne delivered beautifully for the 45-yard touchdown with 2:28 remaining.

With the game tied, the Browns took their time marching down the field and found themselves just outside of field goal range on the Dolphin 45. Colt McCoy took the snap and looked to hit a curl route to the left, which, if completed, would have given the Browns a sure-fire chance to kick a field goal and win the game.

But, our lord and savior, Sean Smith had something to say about that.

Smith jumped the corner route (user jumped :p ) and picked the ball off.

Henne then connected with Brian Hartline over the middle to setup a game winning 42 yard field goal by Carpenter as time expired.

    Great game Ry.

    Stats to note:

    C. Henne: 13 for 20, 245 yards, 2 TDs, 3 INTs

    C. McCoy: 7 for 16, 207 yards, 1 TD, 3 INTs

    B. Marshall: 6 receptions, 112 yards, 1 TD

    P. Hillis: 20 rushes, 66 yards, 1 TD

    R. Bush: 9 rushes, 30 yards, 1 TD --- Left game early in 2nd quarter. Never returned.

    S. Brown: 2 INTs
