CHIEFS ROLL INTO NEW ORLEANS AND ESCAPE WITH A 31-24 VICTORY
The Chiefs came into New Orleans knowing they would need some breaks to leave with a victory and they got just that. The Saints had zero problems moving up and down the field on the Chief's defense rolling up 441 yards of total offense (329 passing and 112 rushing). KC's defense played opportunistic defense causing 1 fumble and 1 INT that was returned for a TD. The Chief's defense was also helped at the end of the 1st half when New Orleans completed a pass down to the KC 1 yard line, but with no timeouts remaining they were unable to get set and snap the ball before the first half expired. THe Chiefs got on the board first in the 1st quarter with a 97 yard TD run by Jamaal Charles. The Saints answered with a 1 yard TD run from Pierre Thomas to tie the game. Matt Cassel then hit Jonathan Baldwin for a 51 yard TD run with 3 seconds remaining in the 1st quarter to give KC the lead 14-7. The Saints would once again answer as Darren Sproles rushed for a 1 yard TD run with 1:57 remaining in the half to tie the game. The Chiefs went 3 and out on their ensuing possession to give the Saints the ball back with about a minute left in the half. Luckily for the Chiefs, Derrick Johnson stepped in front of a Drew Brees pass and returned it 80 yards for a TD and a 21-14 halftime lead.
The third quarter was virtually silent for both teams as the only score was a 35 yard Ryan Succop field goal that gave the Chiefs a 24-14 lead. The Saints answered with a field goal of their own to cut the lead to 7 with 3:45 to play in the game. The Chiefs drove the ball for the most part behind the legs of Charles and on third down Charles broke a 37 yard TD run with 1:51 to play to give the Chiefs the lead 31-17. New Orleans as they had done all day moved the ball without much resistance and scored on a Brees to Jimmy Graham TD pass with 40 seconds to go. The Chiefs were able to recover the onside kick to preserve the victory.
    Drew Brees 19/31 329 yards 1TD and 1INT
    Darren Sproles 13 rushes 83 yards 1TD
    Jimmy Graham 6 catches 69 yards 1TD
Marques Colston 5 catches 102 yards
    Matt Cassel 9/18 152 yards 1TD 1INT
    Jamaal Charles 14 rushes 224 yards 2TDs, 4 catches 62 yards
Dewayne Bowe 2 catches 16 yards
    Jonathan Baldwin 1 catch 51 yards 1TD
Next week the Chiefs are back at home to play the San Diego Chargers. The defense will need to improve if the Chiefs are going to be serious contenders in the AFC West.

GG man. Too many drops, and the Brees hurry up animation right before halftime was ridiculous. Why was he looking up and down the line when I'm trying to spike the ball?!

That long run by Charles was nice!

Patriots Remain Unbeaten Going Into Week 4

Tom Brady and Coach Zalizniak both said that this game against the Ravens would be the first test of the season. If that is so, then you can look for another "straight A" season from the patriots who steam-rolled the Ravens 42-10. Both offense and defense hit the ground running with the offense having over 400 total yards and the defense giving up a mere 154 total yards.

Brady threw for 313 yards and 4TD and also ran in a TD of his own. His main target of the day was none other than Rob Gronkowski who caught 6 balls for 137 yards and 2 TD. Stevan Ridley put in a good effort running the ball 19 times for 93 yards and a score.

The only touchdown for the Ravens came on a late 80 yard touchdown reception by the speedy Torrey Smith, who torched a lazy defense late in the game. When asked about it after the game smith said "once they had a big lead on us, they kinda just got lazy and didn't play as hard. I told Joe to just throw it up and let me run under it, and it worked".

First year coach Zalizniak was not very happy with the effort from the defense on that play and was seen expressing his opinions to the defensive coordinator on the sidelines shortly after the play. At the post game press conference he said "We need to play 100% from whistle to whistle no matter what the score is. Laziness is like a cancer, and once it spreads, your team is in trouble. I expect 100% every down, and that is not negotiable".

Lions Continue Dominance, Crush Titans 41-3
Detroit easily cruised by the Titans, in what many felt looked like a scrimmage than an NFL game. "They couldn't get their running game going and it hurt their whole offense because their passing game feeds off the ground game." Coach Westcott commented in the locker room. "We just kept capitalizing on their lack of offense and mistakes and got good field position all game."
The Lions came out and took control early, hitting Calvin Johnson for a touchdown strike and forcing the Titans to go three and out on their first 4 possessions. Stafford looked sharp, spreading the ball around and forcing the Titans into a passing game that is out of their comfort zone. He ended the day with a perfect passer rating, completing 14 of his 17 pass attempts. Detroit lead 21-0 at halftime and didn't look back.
The second half was more of the same, after coach Westcott pulled injury prone Jahvid Best, Mikel Leshoure came in and racked up 130 yards on 18 carries. "We are lucky to get solid running from our backs!" Westcott concluded "It helps so much to have that to put teams away, a running game helps everything really."

    Packers Ruffle Seahawks 38-14

The Green Bay Packers came away with a decisive victory on Sunday against a promising team in the Seahawks. The Packers jumped off to a hot start leading the game 14-0. Rodgers connected with TE Jermaine Gresham for both of his passing touchdowns. Aaron Rodgers continued to not look like the same A-Rod of old as he also threw two picks on passes that possibly could have been touchdown throws. Jonathan Stewart continued to help provide a balanced attack for Green Bay. Stewart ran for 97 yards on 11 carries. WR Greg Jennings led the game i rec yards with 69.

On the defensive side of the ball, Green Bay was did a good job of flustering Seahawks rookie QB Russell Wilson. Nick Perry got a sack on him and also registered tackles that resulted in losses. CB Tramon Williams continued his terrific play alongside Leon Hall. Williams added 2 interceptions giving him a total of 5 already on the season. Green Bay on defense also did a good job of containing Marshawn Lynch for most of the game, as he was held to 67 yards and a mere 3.2 yards per carry average. The Packers now turn their attention to the New Orleans Saints in what should be another great early season test for the Pack.

    Raiders Fall to Steelers 3-0
This long time AFC rivalry was rekindled this weekend, as the 1-1 Raiders hosted the 2-0 Pittsburgh Steelers. Terrell Pryor would have his first true test against a defensive unit that has been helping win games for the black and gold this year. The Raiders decided to go with the passing game in this one, but Pryor would have his ups and downs. Pittrburgh forced some key turnovers in this one, including a Larry Foote interception inside the 5 yard line. Pittsburgh was able to gain the lead late in the fourth, but gave the Raiders the ball back with plenty of time to make a comeback, but the Oakland offense fizzled in key moments mainly due to Terrell Pryor's arm. The Steelers won 28-24 and sneak out of Oakland remaining first place in the AFC North. The Steelers go into a bye week and Oakland will look to rebound in an important matchup against division rival Denver next week. Only time will tell for both of these teams, but I have a feeling we could potentially see these two teams playing for playoff spots later in the season.

Antonio Brown scored an important touchdown late in the 4th quarter to give the Steelers the lead.
