Damn, some epic victories this week.
Nittany Lions Bury AggiesPenn State Took Care of the SEC For 27-6 The Penn State Nittany Lions defense played phenomenal football holding the Aggies to only 196 YDs of offense, only 66 of which came on the ground. They also stopped TAMU on 9 of 12 3rd down attempts, creating havoc in the Aggie backfield. QB Jameil Showers was sacked 4 times and hit numerous more. DT Anthony Zettel had 3 of the 4 sacks for Penn State, with All-American DE Darrell Walker cleaned up the last. On the offensive side of the ball for PSU, it was all in the rushing game. HB Bill Belton ran for 106 yards on 17 carries. HB Chris Hackett got plenty of action running 8 times for 40 yards and a touchdown, and QB Nick Kirby also had 8 rushes for 52 yards and a score himself. Kirby also excelled in the passing game going 8 of 15 for 142 YDs and 1 TD. The Nittany Lions will be on a bye week next week before traveling to Kansas City to take on the Wildcats in Manhattan.
Iowa takes care of Louisville 48-17 The Iowa Hawkeyes welcomed the Louisville Cardinals to Kinnick Stadium. Louisville was coming off of a National Championship game loss against Ohio State to end last season. Iowa opened up there season against Northern Illinois in week 1 with a shutout 31-0. The Iowa defense would look just as good as they did in week 1. The opponent was a little better, but the defense kept them at bay like they did the Huskies in week 1. Iowa took the lead into the Half, 17-3. Freshman TE Jamie Berry had his second TD reception of the season, and Damon Bullock put the first score on the board for Iowa. The second half was much like the first. Iowa dominated on defense, and increased the lead to 34-3 early in the 4th quarter. Sophomore WR Michael Holmes scored his second TD of the season and Berry added his second TD of the game. Louisville finally manages to get a TD, and then attempts the onside kick, trailing by 24. They recover the kick, but QB Teddy Bridgewater throws a gift to SS Nico Law, that Law returns for the touchdown. On the very next possession, Bridgewater again attempts a pass to the flat, and this time MLB Quinton Alston comes up with the interception and races to the end zone ahead of the pursuing tacklers. The third time is the charm for the Cardinals, but it is too little, too late. The final ends up at 48-17, with a raucous fourth quarter that saw a lot of scoring. Stats QB JP Brooks - 13 of 18 for 170 yards and 2 TD'sRB Jordan Canzeri - 19 carries for 122 yardsWR Kevonte Martin Manley - 4 receptions for 89 yardsMLB Quinton Alston - 5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, 1 defensive TD
