I got some predictions for this week. They're at home, I'll post them either tonight or in the morning. A few of us are on upset alert this week, I'll tell you that right now.

I have one prediction for those punks at Georgia Tech, and that's PAIN!

I know it certainly isn't me unless you know something about the big, bad Wolfpack that I don't.

Week 4 brings us week 2 of the Troy report! Let's see what we have in store for this week.

Mia @ GT Line GT -6
Georgia Tech comes off of a big win in Blacksburg and gets a Miami team that just came of a heartbreaker in Pittsburgh. The smart money is on Tech, however, Miami wants this one BADLY and will be looking to break it off in Nesbit's ass.... should be a great game.

Notre Dame @ Ole Miss Pick em' (0 spread)
Notre Dame is dangerous with a capital D. So are the Rebels. Oxford is the difference and Tin Cup gets the big win...but he has to fight for 28 minutes to get it.

    Kentucky @ Florida UF -20
Florida says "No soup for you!" Come back next year!!

Clemson @ Boston College Clem -13.
Clemson lost in a devestating fashion last week, they come back this week and take the Eagles behind the woodshed.

Wake Forest @ Maryland. Maryland -14.5
The smart money is on a blistering hot Maryland team right? Wrong! Not so fast my friend. Maryland wins, but Wake Forest gives them all they care to have.

Georgia @ Mississippi St. UGA -13.5. Miss St. just isn't very good. SEC games are tough no matter what, especially on the road. Miss St. makes some plays, but the Dawgs are never really threatened.

Tennessee @ LSU LSU -2.5. No one wants to go to Baton Rouge. Even if the Volunteers win vs. Florida, they lose this one as the Stud keeps himself in contention for a HUGE showdown with Florida.

    Alabama @ Arkansas Bama -7.5
Alabama is a few plays away from being 0-2 and desperate. See my comments above regarding road SEC games. Alabama gets it done but has to sweat for it.

NC St. @ UNC N. Carolina -14.5. Someone told me that the Wolfpack is "terrible". They live up to that and the Heels are still untested after this one.

FSU @ UVA FSU -17. No offense to the Cav fans in the room, but your fight song is lame. FSU wins by half a hundred.

So there we have it. Some good games this week. Miami vs. Georgia Tech is critical in the ACC race, Notre Dame vs. Ole Miss is critical in the National Championship chase (Notre Dame will be there at the end) Tennessee v. LSU should be interesting. I love conference play. Like Mills Lane once said. "Let's get it on!"

Feel free to interject your own opinions, questions, one liners, or whatever the case may be. These are open for discussion.

I too am only in Week 3.

I deleted my saved file and downloaded a new one, but I'm still in week 3.

I wish I knew why I seem to be having so much trouble with this stuff.

I don't know spreads. Can you explain to me what that means?

If Miami wins by more than six, you're correct?
If Notre Dame wins at all you're correct?
    What does Clemson -13 mean?

WEEK 4 GAME OF THE WEEK

    #13 GEORGIA TECH

    VS

    #25 Miami

    PREVIEW

College football fans looking for an intriguing matchup need look no further than the ACC. This week, Miami takes on a determined Georgia Tech team. After getting upset by Pittsburgh last week, Miami looks to right the ship and stay in BCS bowl contention. On the other side, Georgia Tech is fresh off its compelling win against Virginia Tech and looks to stay atop the ACC Coastal Division with a win this week. Who will win? Lets look at the tale of the tape...

    TALE OF THE TAPE

Miami Rush Offense Vs Georgia Tech Rush Defense

Miami's philosophy on offense is to execute a balanced attack. On the rushing side of this formula, Miami leans heavily on Senior RB Craig Cooper. And why not? The Pre Season All-American is off to a great start this year, averaging 164 ypg. Assisting Cooper is the massive Miami OL. Lead by LT Malcolm Bunche and LG Orlando Franklin, Miami has the road graders up front to succeed against any defensive unit. Or do they? Georgia Tech is equally impressive along the defensive line. Derrick Morgan and Jacob Peters form one the best DE combos in the country. In the middle, TJ Barnes is a young DT in the mold of Glen Dorsey (but not quite as good -yet). It appears that both lines are team strengths. The wild card to this equation is definitely Craig Cooper. To be successful, he will have to make defenders miss. Lucky for the Canes, he's been doing exactly that his whole career.

    ADVANTAGE: MIAMI

Miami Pass Offense Vs Georgia Tech Pass Defense

Lets cut right to the chase, shall we? Georgia Tech has one of the bast secondaries in the country. Led by All-American SS Morgan Burnett, the Ramblin' Wreck have wreaked havoc on every quarterback to cross its path this year. Fortunately for the Canes, they can counter the Tech secondary with the best trio of wide receivers in the country. Thearon Collier, Aldarius Johnson, and Travis Benjamin each have lethal speed. Miami can win this battle as long as the quarterback plays mistake free football...uh oh. Jacory Harris, the supremely talented Junior QB, has gotten off to a slow start this season. Having thrown 6 interceptions and only 2 touchdown passes, he will need to elevate his game in order to give Miami the edge...we're just not sure he'll be able to do it.

    ADVANTAGE: GEORGIA TECH

Georgia Tech Rush Offense Vs Miami Rush Defense

Not since the 90s Huskers have we seen a rush offense this impressive. Georgia Tech has all the ingredients to pile up 300+ yards a game on the ground in any given week. At the center of this attack is Senior Jonathan Dwyer. The 6'0", 231 LB Fullback runs like a Cornerback and hits like a Mack truck. He is joined in the backfield by Roddy Jones, who thrives by attacking the outside of the field. If that isnt enough, QB Josh Nesbitt has wheels and isnt afraid to get hit. Although Miami has a very stout defensive front 7, it appears that Tech has the edge here.

    ADVANTAGE: GEORGIA TECH

Georgia Tech Pass Offense Vs Miami Pass Defense

Truth be told, although both units are very talented, neither has been very impressive this year. The Hurricane secondary has reverted back to its 2008 counterpart and is having troubles making big plays. Case in point- no Cane player in the secondary has an interception this year. On the flip side, Georgia Tech merely has a competent gunslinger. Josh Nesbitt will rekindle memories of Nebraska legend Tommie Frazier- which is a bad thing when its 3rd and 10. Although both units leave something to be desired, Ill call for the Canes to get the best of the Yellow Jackets through the air.

    ADVANTAGE: MIAMI

    PREDICTION

Georgia Tech is a dangerous football team. With a punishing ground game and steady defense, it should come as no surprise that Tech is THE dark horse in the national title hunt. Enter Miami. With a potent balanced attack and fast defense, Miami has the ability to crush Tech's dreams at an undefeated season. Both teams will score. The key questions are: 1) will Miami score enough to make Tech abandon the run; and 2) will Jacory Harris play mistake-free football? This writer thinks neither will happen and therefore, gives the advantage to Tech.

A point spread works like this:

If you have a spread that is GT -6 v. Miami that means if you were to bet on this game you could either take GT -6 or Miami +6. Let's say you take Miami +6. Then as long as Miami loses by no more than 6 you win. The easy way to think of it is take the final score of a game. Let's say it is Georgia Tech 21, Miami 24. If you had miami +6 then the score in your bet is 30-21 so you win. If it was GT 31 - Mia 27 then the score in your bet would be Miami 33 - GT 31 Again you win. If it's GT 28 - Miami 7 then in regard to your bet its
GT 28-Mia 13 and you lose.

When I say I was right or wrong in my spread predictions it's really as long as it's close it's right because I'm not really taking the favorite or the underdog, just creating the betting line. In real life the object of a point spread it to create equal action on both sides of a bet. The Casino/Sportsbook wants an equal amount of money on Miami and Georgia Tech so that they can take the money from the Losing side to pay the winning side and they can pocket their commission (9-10% on average) that they charge for each wager without taking a loss. If it works perfectly then they never lose on any wager, and walk away with 9.09% of every dollar wagered with them, which can equal a TON of money....if it doesn't work right and the line is uneven (Indiana +2.5 vs. Akron last weekend) then 90% of the money wagered goes on Indiana's side, IU covers the bet and the casino takes it in the noodle.

If I throw in a little Ole Miss will win but have to work for it, it's for no other reason to inject a little something to talk about that's all.

So basically calling a close line is a win for a bookmaker.

and now you know :) Yes, I do gamble from time to time if you couldn't tell.

Cool. Thanx for the great explanation. That makes sense. In that case, here are my bets:

    GT -6
    Notre Dame
    UF -20
    Clem -13.
    Maryland -14.5
    Mississippi St. +13.5
    LSU -2.5
    Arkansas +7.5
NC St. @ UNC I won't bet on myself, but, uh, yeah. I think we all know who I told my 3rd cousin twice removed to bet on.
    FSU -17

    EDIT:
I just compared my picks with lilmaggie's and we differ on quite a few.

It was Maggie's idea. I give him the credit. He just happened to hit on a few things, that I know about and evidently Beazus knows about. Beazus is doing a lights out job with his game of the week thread...but don't bet against an angry storm Beazus!

    UNC Downs NCSt, 48-9

UNC had no problems handing an embarrassing loss to their little brothers, NC State. The Heels' defense was dominant once again as they only gave up 9 points. It would've only been 3 points, but they let a Wolfpack HB break a 66 yard TD on them. Coach Jello said during the press conference that his defense will be running some extra wind sprints because of that.

With as great as it was to beat up their rival like this, the game did come with a price. SR FB Anthony Elzy was injured and will miss at least the next 8 weeks. Prior to this game, Elzy was second on the team in carries (only 1 behind the leader), 2nd in rushing yards, and 1st in rushing TDs. Losing this half of UNC's dual headed rushing attack will hurt the Heels. Someone (hopefully HB Ryan Houston) will have to step up to fill that void.

While this was a good victory for North Carolina, every UNC fan's head will be forever filled with the following image.

    Power Poll

    (1) #1 Florida - Have you seen that Brantley has thrown for close to 800 yards in 3 games? 7 TD's to 2 interceptions also.

    (2) #3 LSU - There's really only one name you need to know - Kelvin Sheppard. In 2 games, he has 24 tackles and 4 interceptions. They are 14 in the nation in turnover difference.

    (3) #5 Florida State - FSU is averaging 49 points per game and Sophmore RB Chris Thompson is averaging 184 yards per game. Sophmore Demonte McAllister has 14 tackles and 4 sacks in two games.

    (4) #8 Maryland - I couldn't decide between Maryland and Ole Miss for this sopt. If the two teams played each other right now, I believe Maryland would win.

    (5) #4 Ole Miss - The Rebels go here for now as nothing hugely impressive sticks out like some of the other teams. The win versus Virginia Tech is still huge to their credit.

    (6) #10 Georgia - They handled South Carolina easily, while Alabama struggled and won by a point so their ahead of the Crimson Tide.

    (7) #11 Alabama - With the likes of Julio Jone, the Crimson Tide are dangerous, but too many turnovers at this point. They barely snuck past South Carolina as they were intercepted 4 times.

    (8) #15 Clemson - Their closest competition for this spot is North Carolina. Clemson kept the game close against LSU and probably should have won.

    (9) #17 Viginia Tech - Two losses and Virginia Tech is down to #17. They're definitely out of championship contention, but now they're fighting for a BCS bid.

    (10) #19 North Carolina - UNC has to play some teams in the top 25 to gain some respect. They get their first chance September 25, when they visit Florida State.

    (11) #25 Miami - A tough loss to an unranked Pitt team and a terrible problem with turnovers scares me. They have 7 give aways and 0 take aways.

    (12) Tennessee - I actually wanted to put Tennessee at 11 this week, but I couldn't justify it. A win or at the least a close game with LSU, and that could change.

Don't send boys to play a grown mans game.

    Miami 52 GT 21.

GT scored 2 TD's right off the bat and then proceeded to get their manhood taken in front of their own fans....never bet against an angry team.

Graig Cooper had 27 touches for 107 yards and 3 scores
Aldarius Johnson abused the GT secondary with 11 catches for 212 yards and a score
Jacory Harris defied the experts with a 19-25 327 yard performance against a weak Yellowjacket secondary.

The Can Defense scored 3 TD's and accounted for another, intercepted two Josh Nesbit passes, and caused two Josh Nesbit fumbles...we essentially broke it off clean in his backside as we had promised to do.

    One other stat of note:

In 8 redzone trips Miami scored 6 td's 1 fg and the only time I didn't score was at the end of the game. I cashed in EVERY redzone possession.

Georgia Tech had 1, yes 1 redzone possession and turned it over on downs.

    The U ain't nothing to F$&# wit.

Next up for us is UNLV and Duke not neccessarily in that order then it's time to party...starting with those dirty Noles coming to Miami.

hahaha, looks like your words have a lot of power behind them Beazus. Kind of like Lee Corso putting on the Mascot hat and riling up the other teams fans.

What happened to Va Tech? The preseason analysis was that they're loaded and ready to run at another national championship in `10.
