Week 5: Redskins (14) @ Panthers (31) The Panthers claw their way to Victory Redskins (14) @ Panthers (31) The Carolina Panthers hosted the Washington Redskins in their week 5 matchup. Going into this game the Panthers had lost their last 2 games, but with D. Williams back from injury they looked to turn things around. 1st. Quarter: The Redskins go the ball first and were shut down and forced to punt. Then on the 2nd play of the Panthers first drive, Delhomme got hit while throwing, the ball went up in the air and Chris Horton of the Redskins came down with it. The Redskins then moved the ball and scored on 3rd and goal on a J.Campbell 3rd TD run. (0-7) Panthers answered back on their next drive pounding D.Williams over and over, getting first downs. Then Delhomme found S.Smith on a 25 yard Touchdown catch and run. (7-7) 2nd Quarter: Panthers get on the board first in the 2nd quarter with a R. Lloyd 45 yard Field goal. (10-7) This time Washington answers back. Moving the ball down the field, the Redskins push into the Red zone and then J.Campbell finds C.Portis over the middle for a 9 yard TD catch. (10-14) With time in the first half running out the Panthers had to score and thanks to a 32 yard screen pass to D.Williams, the Panthers were in good shape to do so. With 19 seconds left till halftime and after being stood up on first and 2nd down near goal line. Delhomme threads the needle to his TE J.Kind for a 1 yard TD. (17-14) HALFTIME 3rd Quarter: The Panthers Defense took over shutting down the Redskins and forcing a fumble. The Panthers manage to add to their lead with a 2 yard D.Williams TD run. (24-14) 4th Quarter: Was more of the same. Panthers added a 9 yard TD Delhomme to D. Williams early in the 4th and that was all they needed. A missed field goal by Washington then a INT thrown by Campbell sealed the Skins fate. Panthers win it (31-14) Great Game by Gotham. The way the game started I thought I was going to lose. Great upset call Nate.
