    Rapid Reaction
    MTSU 34
    WKU 63

Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders were knocked back down to earth by the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. The Blue Raiders kept the game close for the first half, even taking the lead twice, but eventually the Hilltoppers flexed their muscles.

    1st Qtr
    5:37 FG MTSU 21 Yd FG (3-0)
    2:13 TD WKU M. Lumpkin 88 Yd Rec (3-7)
0:53 TD MTSU Ray Fisher 69 YD Rec (10-7)
    0:00 TD WKU L. Grigsby 27 YD Rec (10-14)

    2nd Qtr
7:46 TD MTSU C. Smith returned kickoff 99 yards (17-14)
    6:10 TD WKU B. Jenkins 31 Yd Rec (17-21)
4:21 TD WKU C. Alexander Returned INT 42 yds (17-28)
    4:03 TD MTSU S. Tanner 60 Yd Run (24-28)
    2:21 TD WKU M. Lumpkin 42 Yd Rec (24-35)

    3rd Qtr
    6:56 TD WKU M. Lumpkin 55 Yd Rec (24-42)
    5:39 TD MTSU M. Gatewood 77 Yd Rec (31-42)
    4:04 TD WKU M. Lumpkin 17 Yd Rec (31-49)
1:56 TD WKU T. Edwards returned INT for 83 yards (31-56)

    4th Qtr
    6:18 FG MTSU 25 YD (34-56)
    4:12 TD WKU C. Douglas 5 Yd Run (34-63)

What It Means: The MTSU Blue Raiders are not on the level of the elite in the CUSA. While the Blue Raiders kept it close the first half, the WKU Hilltoppers pulled away in the 2nd half and really showed the lack of talent and depth on MTSU.

Hero: WKU QB E. Hayden 304.6 rating. 20-27 for 553 yards 6 TDs and 2 INTs. He easily dominated and shook off an early INT to take control of the game.

Telling Stat: Passing yards. 553-340. As noted earlier, Hayden completely controlled this game. Lundy put up admirable stats for MTSU throwing for 240 yards, but he also threw two costly INTs.

Current Standing: The Blue Raiders drop to 3-3(1-2) on the year. While the Blue Raiders are 2-0 at home this year, they now drop to 1-3 on the road.

Moving Forward, whats next?: The Blue Raiders return home to face Conference favorite and top 10 ranked Western Michigan. As ugly as the games against Kent State and Western Kentucky got, this game could be a slaughterhouse from the get.

Initial thoughts on keys to the Western Kentucky game: Western Michigan is better in all facets of the game. The initial gameplan that popped into my head was to turn chew clock on from the opening kickoff and try to run the clock off by running constantly and milking the gameclock. Hopefully the margin of victory will stay within 50 if I can find a way to implement this gameplan successfully.

The race to get Coach Redd's MVP Vote - Top 5 CUSA MVP Candidates(based on who MTSU has faced so far):
(All stats in parenthesis are vs MTSU this year)
    1.A- QB WKU - E. Hayden (304.6 rating 20-27 553 yds 6td-2int)
    B- QB Kent State - C. Denman (290.5 QB Rating 17-20 293 yds, 5 TD-0NT)
    3. RB Kent State - John Newby (21 rushes, 150 yards, 7.1 avg 2 TD)
    4. WR WKU - M. Lumpkin (8 rec, 255 yds, 4 TDs)
    5. Def Kent State - C. Edwards (7 solo tackles, 4 TFL , 1 sack, 1 forced fumble)

EJ Hayden for Heisman! He'll be the first 75 accuracy winner.

    Good writeup Coach.

    #5 Army Thumps Navy
    [IMG]

Army thumps Navy for the 5th straight year in their annual rivalry showdown. Again it was the Army Defense who proved to be the difference makers. In a day where it seemed nothing could go wrong for Army (and nothing right for Navy), the Black Knights once again forced 6 turnovers, but unlike last week capitalized on those turnovers for scores. The game got out of hand early on as MLB Michael White scooped and scored on the big hit in the picture above. SR HB Larry Clark had a big day on the ground punching it in 4 times on 14 carries and totaling 80 yards on the ground. The Sherman Alert had SS Patrick Sherman recording 3 tackles and 1 forced fumble in less than 3 quarter of playing time. The defensive performer of the day however had to go to CB Clint Gray who recorded only 2 tackles but picked Navy QB Nicholas Pittman for 2 of his 4 interceptions of the day.

This one was a wild game. It was nip and tuck and looked to be deadlocked at 14 going into half, but after a coffin corner punt bounced out at the Arkansas State 1 yardline, the Red Wolves had to run the ball with just 26 seconds left until the half. A fumble on the 6 yardline set up the Vandals with a 1st and goal with seconds left. Jim Rice capitalized when he hit Cory Reid on a slant pattern to take a 21-14 lead into the break.

On the legs of freshman sensation Boo Skidoo, the Red Wolves grinded out much of the second half, and found themselves in a tied ballgame with minutes to play. After forcing a three and out, the Red Wolves got the ball with just a couple of minutes left around midfield. The Vandal defense, abused for much of the second half, finally stepped up and forced a three and out. With a minute left, the Vandals were poised and moved the ball right down the field. On a heavy blitz, Rice again found Reid, this time on a streak. He was covered well, but it was a perfect ball and fantastic catch and it brought the Vandals inside the Red Wolves' 10 yardline with thirty seconds left in the game. On the next play, Adam Craft was able to punch it in for the 6 yard score and the Vandals were able to get the victory, 35-28. Hell of a game.

The overall stats are pretty even, but a bit misleading. Arkansas State's 6.18 yard per rush stat was real. He just had his way with me. My 6.85 yard per carry rush was largely aided by an 88 yard jet sweep play where sophomore Mario Tucker broke an arm tackle, turned the corner, and outraced everyone on the field down the sideline. Sweet highlight if you wanna check it out.

MVP: WMU HB Travis Ruffin: 16 Carries, 217 Yards and 4 TDs

The Turning Point: After closing the gap to 14 with :25 left in the half UL Monroe had at least made it competitive but Adrian Pollock answered with a 3 play drive to close out the half with a TD pass to Anthony Jones to push it back to a 3 TD lead.

Key To The Game: The trenches. Adrian Pollock went for 200+ while Cameron King ran 5 for 54 and took a screen pass 69 yards while the closer Kyle McKinney ran 8 times for 52 yards. On the other end UL Monroe's leading rusher was QB Clff Parks who ran 11 times for 20 yards. WMU front seven recorded 8 sacks and forced 5 fumbles.

Next Week: In Murfreesoro against Middle Tennessee State

. Good game niki. Between the pressure your db's put on my recievers and the way your Dline dominated my Oline, my Qb had no time. And of course I couldn't stop ur running attack. If only the Broncos could be so good IRL!
