Miami's Miraculous Win in South Bend!

    miami ND.JPG

    #17 Miami 24
    #20 Notre Dame 20

This game lived up to the hype, and will go down as a classic in this historic rivalry. The 1st half started out all Miami, A couple big pass plays and a FG made it 17-0 Miami at halftime. The ND Offense was not clicking at all and Miami was feeling good. In the 3rd quarter ND finally got into FG Range to make it 17-3. Then the 4th quarter came and thats when things got interesting. All of a sudden the roles had reversed and ND had all of the momentum . They moved the ball at will scoring 3 times in the final 5 minutes to make it 20-17 Notre Dame. They made one mistake though, they let Miami get the ball with 6 seconds left. Miami had time for one hail mary, and a defensive miscue from the Irish gave WR Allen Hurns a chance to catch the ball wide open down the sideline. He ran it in for 75 yards and the game winning touchdown. Talk about an emotional swing. Irish fans were livid! One was quoted as saying " Who has 3 linebackers on the field in that situation? Nobody.Ever." Clearly unhappy with the defensive coordinator. Now Miami gets ready for a big stretch of ACC Games as they have North Carolina, Florida State and Virginia Tech coming to town in the next couple of weeks.

POTG- WR Allen Hurns 7 Rec 234 Yards, 2 TDS

The in-state rivalry between Cal and Cal-Los Angeles is a big one! More importantly, both teams attempting to upend USC will have to go through one another first, and this time around the Golden Bears hosted the Bruins.
A fast lead would have the Bruins out early, 14-0. But a ruthless Zach Maynard would roar back throughout the remainder of the first half, allowing his Golden Bears to go into the half leading 28-14. The second half would consist of the same thing, UCLA coming out on fire, off a defensive stop and another interception, UCLA would take command of the game, and tie it up 28-all with 2 minutes remaining in the ball game. Insert Zach Maynard, who hit Spencer Hagan on a defensive breakdown to take the lead with under a minute remaining. Despite so little time, the UCLA offense would have two attempts to make something happen, the first ending in an interception, the second on an incomplete pass attempt to Jerry Rice Jr, UCLA falls to Cal! This game taking UCLA out of PAC-12 Championship game talks, more than likely, as they start 1-2 within the conference with Utah looming ahead. Also, at the halfway mark of the season, UCLA boasts a 4-2 record, with only two more wins to become bowl eligible.
    Final Score :
    UCLA 35 - 42 California
    Player of the Game :
Cal WR Keenan Allen - 8 receptions, 157 yards and 2 Touchdowns
**sorry for the short summary, I want to get crackin on my national football preview for you guys, expected by about Monday.

    Utah Upsets #2 USC, 21-13
3 Goalline Stands by Ute D keeps them undefeated
The Trojans had been romping through their season like an angry bull at a rodeo. But Saturday they faced their first big test as they traveled to Salt Lake to face off against the equally undefeated and unchallenged Utes. Utah received to start the game and their offense had several key plays before reaching the 8 yard line. Two big defensive plays by the Trojan D had Utah facing a 3rd and 8. But Jon Hays would hit Devonte Christopher for the score.

USC would get their own offense going but be stopped on four straight plays on the Utah goalline. Utah would manage to drive the ball all the way to USC 43 on the next possession but would be forced to punt. The next Trojan drive would meet the same fate, going into the 2nd quarter.

The Ute offense would keep the Trojans off-balance, their ground game getting it going in a big way. John White would have a 47 yard TD-rush in the middle of the second to give them a 14-0 lead. USC could not get anything going offensively as the Ute D brought pressure from multiple angles, and keeping the talented USC receivers jammed at the line. After a long pass play to Robert Woods over the middle, a touchdown saving tackle by FS Eric Rowe would see the Ute defense clamp down yet again on the Trojan offense late in the 2nd.

The Utah offense would be on their own goalline, however with a long way to go to even think about scoring before the half. But the Ute's were able to exploit a personnel mismatch by going no-huddle out of their goalline set. Eventually the Utes would be able to punch things in from three yards out by Bryon York on a short toss play.

Utah would go into the half up 21-0 but their overconfidence nearly lost them the game.

USC would receive the ball and seemingly doom themselves from the get-go, as Barkley would throw an interception. But on the very next play, the Trojan D would stand tall and force a fumble from White. USC would be forced to settle for a field goal on their next drive, however.

But the fumble had brought new life to the Cardinal and Gold defenders as they would clamp down on the Ute offense. The Trojans would then finally taste the endzone as Barkley would connect on a crossing route to Marqise Lee, 21-10 Utes.

Yet another drive would stall for the Ute offense in the 4th and they would be forced to punt it away. USC would manage a field goal on their next drive and close within a possession, 21-13.

But while the Ute offense was languishing, the Ute defense came roaring back for a sack on Barkley on second down to force a 3rd and 20 for the Trojans on their own 19 with 1:40 left. A bomb by the trojan D was caught but broken up at the last second by the Ute secondary. Staring at 4th and 20, on their own 19, with less than two minutes left to go, the Trojans elected to keep their offense on the field. Another long bomb was broken up at the last second by the Ute defense, giving them a win.

"There aren't that many teams that could come in here and go down 21 at the half, throw a pick on the opening possession of the 2nd and come back like those guys did. I'm really proud of our guys for staying focused with the power outage during half time. But this win only means something if we keep doing what we have to."

(Don't have stats or highlights for this one as my internet cut out at the half. Can't wait to get to SC and do things properly in my own place. GG Bulldog. Between your recruits and returning talent, I'm not looking forward to heading to the Coliseum next year.)

Heels Upset Hokies for Pivotal Divisional Win

    UNC 31
    Virginia Tech 9

    WATCH IN HD

The Tar Heels of North Carolina entered Saturday's game against Virginia Tech with a lot on the line. Not only was this divisional game crucial for conference play, but a host of blue chippers were in attendance-some of whom are also considering the Hokies. VaTech came into the game boasting the nation's best defense and a perfect record. On the flip side, UNC had struggled to find a defensive identity in their new 4-2-5 scheme.

After an opening score, the Heels stopped the Hokies before a AJ Blue fumble gave the Hokies the ball right back deep in UNC territory. The defense held and forced a FG, as they would throughout the game. UNC answered with a field goal of their own, before Virginia Tech made some noise late in the second half, getting inside the redzone twice. Both times, however, the Heel defense came up huge, including a goal line stand. As a result, VT had to settle for two field goals as the half ended 10-9 UNC.

The 2nd half was all UNC, as Renner opened it up and threw for another touchdown, while running one in as well. The defense continued to be a force, shutting out VT the entire half and picking off Logan Thomas twice. Final score UNC 31 VT 9.

GG DerekC . Score not indicative of how close this game really was, especially with all those FGs you had to settle for and all the lucky shit that went my way. See ya next year.

    Key Stats

UNC QB Bryn Renner 14-21 219 yards 2 TD 1 INT, 58 yards rush 1 TD
UNC SS Jeff Schometter 2 tackles 1 sack 1 interception
VT QB Logan Thomas 14-28 187 yards 3 INT

Huskies cannot overcome turnovers , Ducks escape with a win !

    Oregon 49
    Washington 34

Washington came into the Autzen Zoo with a powerful offense and looked to get a win in this heated rivalry, and had it not been for some bad luck and a few turnovers the Huskies may have done just that. This came seemed to test every player on the field, as well as the water boys as the non stop action was intense.

Early in the first quarter Washington mounted a drive led by the tandem of Price-to-Jenkins , as the Duck defense was on its heels an untimely INT toss by Price was taken to the house by CB Terrance Mitchell. This turned out to be the theme of the day as the Huskies put up ungodly numbers against the Duck defense but always seemed to have a bad break. Washington was able to score on its next possession , as were the Ducks leaving a 1st quarter score of 14-7 Oregon.

The second quarter was a pivotal one as Ducks were able to make a lead that held for the rest of the game, despite a strong effort in the second half by coach JFace. The Huskies offense was able to move the ball again in this quarter but more turnovers led to Oregon points. The Oregon offense was not on the field much for this one, but when they were sophomore QB Bryan Bennett was stellar , he tossed two TD's in the second quarter to make it 28-7 , but Washington QB Keith Price was not taking a backseat as he made a quick drive to score making it 28-14. The ensuing kickoff was taken to the house by early season return man of the year candidate D'Anthony "short bus" Thomas 98 yards immediately after making it a 35-14 game with just 27 seconds left. This however was still too much time as the Huskies moved quickly down field and nailed a FG as the first half ran down, making it 35-17 at the half.

The second half both teams defense tightened up a bit , but not much. The Huskies added a FG in the third to make it 35-20 and looked to make a defensive stop and get the ball back. After a strong stand and poor execution by Oregon the ducks punted and seemed to have lost some momentum , but Washington's young QB would throw one more pick 6 to Terrance Mitchell shown, making it 42-20.

Oregon would try to chew some clock in the forth and make father time the best defender it had on this day, but Washington just would not go away until Price threw one final pick 6. Had it not been for the large number of turnovers and Thomas returning a kickoff for touchdown this came may have been very , very different. As always great game JFace907, can't wait for the next one in this rivalry (y)

Perfect 4th Quarter Gives Victory to OSU
Another very slow and sloppy start almost cost the Beavers at Reser Stadium tonight. The highly touted and surprisingly successful Cougars came in with only one loss and looked to stay perfect in PAC 12 play. They did a great job in the first half but eventually wore down and conceded the victory to a determined Beaver squad. The first half was dominated by the Cougars on offense and defense. The defense stuffed the run and picked off Sean Mannion 5 times. The offense on the other hand put up 24 points with the nice field position given to them by their defense. The OSU defense was getting frustrated and tired of their offense just giving Washington State the ball time after the time. They knew they were playing good enough to keep them in it but with being tired they were getting rolled. The Beavers would trail 24-6 at the half. During halftime MLB Feti Unga lit into the team. He called the offense cowards, heartless, and had no fight in them. He would then look to the defense a set a fire under them by telling them to not wait any longer and make a play to win to turn this game around. Little did he know that play would occur in the last quarter of the game.
The Beavers would come out of the locker room with their heads held high. On the opening drive Mannion caught Washington State in a blitz and quickly got the ball out to Freshman Richard Mullaney who was only on the field due to Markus Wheaton's injury. Mullaney would run into the endzone untouched to give the Beavers their first TD of the game. OSU's defense would hold on tight and only allow a short FG, but the only problem was that Washington State was killing the clock on every drive. The 4th Quarter would showcase a clinic by the Beavers. The defense picked the ball off three times and Mannion could not miss he receiving corp. Malcolm Agnew would find the endzone from six yards out due to the air raid Mannion put on the secondary. Washington State caught fire and was really pressing the defense back into a corner. They had to make a play that Unga preached about and FS Anthony Watkins did just that.
With that pick six the crowd would erupt pulling all of momentum Washington State had. The Cougars was stunned but pulled together and got back into the endzone two plays later. This would put them back on top with 4 minutes left in the game. After a quick 3 and out from both teams time was not on the Beavers side. Freshman WR Richard Mullaney did a spectacular job in the second half. After catching two more passes from Mannion he would break one tackle to tie the game up at 34-34. With little time on the clock the Cougars were not going to settle for OT but for the victory. Washington State QB Jeff Tuel would make a grave mistake by underthrowing a pass to the outside. Senior CB Keynan Parker would intercept the ball and take it right into the kicking range of Trevor Romaine. Agnew would center it for Romaine and with 2 seconds left he would kick the game winning FG.
    FINAL SCORE: 37-34
PLAYER OF THE GAME: WR Richard Mullaney- 3 Rec, 135 yards, 2 TD
