Bruins Late Push Allows a Winning Escape
In a game of similar offenses, the Jim Mora Jr led UCLA Bruins would travel to Arizona to play Rich Rodriguez and the Wildcats of UA. The 15th ranked Bruins had a chance to start the season 5-0, a first in the Mora Dynasty. The Wildcats came in at 2-1 and not a scuff from the PAC-12 yet in the young season.
The first half saw many drives come and go without a fuss. With a heavy passing offense, and solid defenses, both teams found themselves inching down the field, usually held short just within enemy territory. The Wildcats were the first to break that trend, with an early Garic Wharton touchdown with 3:13 minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Jerry Rice Jr and Brett Hundley would answer in the second quarter, from 17 yards out. The Wildcats were the first team involved to have back-to-back successful drives, this a near mirror of the last, punching it in from 4 yards out just a little more than a minute later. 14-7 Wildcats with 3:32 in the Second Quarter. After taking their drive past the 2-minute mark, Hundley would find Jerry Rice Jr again able to take a tie into the half. That minute and a half remaining would be tricky though, as the Arizona offense would run a Draw against the unexpected Bruins defense, enough to push them forward to a 25 yard pass from Tyler Slavin to Jovon Henderson to end the half, Wildcats with the 21-14 lead.
A slow third quarter, rather uneventful, would end with a UCLA game-tying touchdown when Freshman Richard Townsend would catch a 16 yard pass in the front corner of the endzone. And just as it picked up at the end, it died down in the fourth. For 5 minutes, neither team scored, and instead made it a battle of possession and field position. HB Daniel Jenkins would be on the receiving end of a screen pass, taking it 40 yards and in for the touchdown, 28-21 Wildcats. 2:07 remaining, it would take a little under a minute for a 7 play 2-minute drill for Hundley to throw a 47 yard touchdown pass to tie it up, leaving a lot of time on the clock for a rather ruthless Arizona offense. With average field position, Arizona would get a quick first down only to end the drive with three consecutive incompletions, forcing them to punt with 45 seconds left. Hundley with a key pocket prescence was able to take the Bruins down to the 35 yard line, calling upon his kicker to win the game. Fairbairn wouldn't be shaken by a Rich Rod timeout, and would knock it through the uprights to allow the Bruins to escape Arizona with a win, and go 5-0(2-0) on the season.

    Oregon State Stuns Washington!
Beaver Nation was ready for this game as they cheered their team to victory this afternoon. The constant chants of OOOO-SSSS-UUUU really started to come on hard when fans realized the upset could be real. As for the city of Corvallis, it is starting to be a place of reckoning for top ranked opponents as this is the second time a top ten team has fallen here under Coach Saw. Last year it was the Oregon Ducks and today it was the Washington Huskies. The Beavers knew they had to come in and play mistake free football to come away with win and remembered what happened last season. In last years game Mannion made some horrible mistakes and Washington's running game made the Beavers pay. This year would be reversed as Washington's high powered offense was just in shambles all game. Senior leader Keith Price would turn the ball over five times with one going back for a TD.
The first quarter neither team budged on offense but OSU busted things open in the second quarter with 14 points. Before RB Malcolm Agnew departed the game with back spasms he was able to stay in there long enough to score a 26 yard TD run. What helped Agnew squeeze into the endzone was great ball carrier vision and a missed tackle. With a promising drive for Washington SS Ryan Murphy would end it with an interception in the endzone. OSU would push down the field until finding paydirt once more. WR Obum Gwachum would run a crisp route getting off the man coverage and Mannion darted a pass in to get the 24 yard score. At this point the crowd was going crazy as the upset was now on. Washington on the other hand had a different take on it and would score 10 quick points before halftime. Finally Price would lead his team down field mistake free and finding Kasen Williams for a 39 yard score with 56 seconds left. While using their timeouts perfectly the Huskie defense forced a punt. Again Price would air it out to his WRs to put his K Travis Coons in range for the late FG. Beavers would lead 14-10 going into halftime.
With a lead over the #5 team in the nation the Beavers knew they had to come out and keep the momentum on their side. They accomplished this by pounding the ball and catching the defense by surprise with a pass to Caleb Smith. This would be Caleb's only catch of the day but it was a big as it extended the lead to 11 points. Things were already shaky for Price but his next mistake pretty sealed the fate of this game. In zone coverage Price tried forcing a pass to the outside but could not get enough power behind the throw. LOLB DJ Welch played the ball well picking it off in stride and taking it back to the house. With the fourth quarter beginning Washington made one last hooray! In their efforts they were only able to produce 3 points from a 36 yard FG. The last TD score of the game would come from backup RB Terron Ward. Ward would run through the Huskie defense untouched for 64 yards and once in the endzone the team and crowd knew what they had accomplished, the upset. GG JFace907 it just was not Price's day, and I look forward to our matchup next year!
This time I was in a rush so no video's once again, sorry guys. This picture was the DJ Welch pick six.
