USF COMES OUT ON TOP OF A DEFENSIVE BATTLE
Onaradio and I played a game full of defensive explosiveness, key dropped passes, baffling special teams play, and some pretty good offense (at times). As most of my games, the defense held pretty tough once they got used to the Temple offensive style. BJ Daniels and Demetris Murray led the offensive surge, which was barely enough. The Owls defense held tight, especially in the red zone. Going into the final two minutes of the game the Owls got the ball back, down 6 (20-14). They were driving the ball down the field, using QB reads and key passes. Coach Holtz was just about to burst with anxiety when Junior Safety JaQuez Jenkins read a Chris Coyer pass, and sealed the game. Although the records may not show right now, these are two of the best teams in the Big East.

Bad Luck Orange Lose Conference Opener to Pitt

This week, Syracuse dropped a close matchup against Big East-foe Pittsburgh 21 - 16 to start their conference season with a loss. A controversial call and poor execution by the Orange turned out to be the deciding factor. With the game tied at 7 midway through the 2nd Quarter, Syracuse drove deep into Panthers territory and seemed to score on a nice touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone but the refs called it incomplete even after replay showed the receiver had one foot down in bounds. So, Syracuse had to settle for a 27-yard field goal and eventually trailed 14 - 10 going into halftime. The Orange also had poor execution on both sides of the ball with the O-line blocking poorly and the D-line not getting any penetration. Next week, Syracuse travels to the undefeated #20 Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
