    Week 7: Pittsburgh(28) @ Baltimore(3)

Defenses run rampart in rain soaked Baltimore.

Week 7 might be to early to start saying "must win" but in this case thats exactly what it was. Pittburgh and Baltimore are 3rd and 4th respectively in their division, with their playoff aspirations sliding farther and farther away with every loss. Both teams looked ready in pregame even with blinding rain coming down that would last the entire 4 quarters.

The 1st qtr was used for the teams to feel each other out as no scoring took place.Baltimore tried to establish a running game with their 2-headed monster of Laurence Maroney & LeRon McClain but the Steelers defense came to play on this day and held Ravens running game quiet. Steelers QB Kerry Collins managed to somewhat move his team early but the Ravens defense forced a couple of Ints.

    Steelers-0
    Ravens-0

After an amazing reception by WR Derrick Mason on the left sideline for 72 yds,the Ravens broke the scoring drought 4 seconds into the 2nd qtr off of a 20yd FG by Josh Scobee. The Steelers defense shined on this goal line stand and held the Ravens to the 3.
On the ensuing drive Collins lead his team into Ravens territory and eventually hit TE Tony Scheffler down the middle for a 23yd TD pass.
Deep in Steelers territory, with only seconds on the clock and no timeouts remaining Ravens QB Joe Flacco forced a desperation pass into the endzone that was picked off by Steelers CB Ike Taylor. Taylor made the most of this Flacco error and proceeded to take it 100yds for the score as the game clock went to zero.

    1st Half
    Steelers-14
    Ravens-3

The 2rd qtr can be summed up with one word, DEFENSE. Both defenses took their teams on their back. Neither offense was very productive and both QBs threw and Int in this qtr. Pittsburgh did manage to take advantage of a turnover as Kerry Collins hit a diving Scheffler off of a PA fake for the 14yd TD pass.

    3rd Qtr
    Steelers-21
    Ravens-3

The Steelers defense would not let up and held Ravens out of the scoring column. Coach Jeremy made the call to run his four minute offense early in the fourth to ensure the Ravens would not mount a comeback. Steelers pounded the rock at the Ravens defense, with some success. Pittsburgh added to its lead when FB Mike Tolbert took it in from 4yds out on a dive.

    Final Score
    Steelers-28
    Ravens-3

Eventhough the score might seem a little lopsided, the Ravens defense made it tough for the Steelers offense to get comfortable. IMO, the game was won with the Taylor pick 6. That really broke the Ravens back and their offense never seemed to recover. LJ and Parker had just enough success in the ground game to keep the Ravens defense honest.

GG Web. I debut a new defense and offense and was pleased with the performance of both. Your defense is your absolute strength and while your offense did manage some long drives, it always seemed to stall out. Once you find your offensive identity, you will have great success.
