    Purdue Escapes the Big House.

#6 Purdue Traveled North To Face a Struggling Michigan Team.

Michigan would get the ball to start and the Boilers defense came up huge forcing a 3 and out and Kerrigan would pound Tate Forcier into the ground.

Purdue got the ball back and headed down the field, getting inside the michigan 5 yard line only to be stopped short on 4th down.

Both teams traded back and forth in the first Qtr.

In the second things started to liven up, Michigan struck first from 9 yard pass to Shaw. 7-0 Michigan. it would take the Boilers another possession to respond.
Finally, TerBush was able to find star RB Ralph Bolden streaking down the field uncovered. He would score on the pass of 84 yards 7-7.

Misfortune would strike the Boilers with 7 seconds TerBush tried hitting a PA Pass to Kevin Smith was hit and rolled on the ground and it was ruled a fumble and Michigan ran in the TD to take a crushing 14-7 lead into half.

Purdue got the ball back to start the 3rd but TerBush was intercepted for the 3rd time on the day, so true Freshman Travis Johnson came out. and the Boilers punted. SS J. McKinley finally brought life back to the Boilers picking off focier for the 2nd time today and taking to the house from 42 yards out tying up the game. 14-14

    4th Qtr.
Purdue once again lived up to its tendency and exploded in the 4th. Bolden would score from 2 and 34 yards out. taking a 28-14 lead. Michigan cut the lead to just a mir 7 points but a Johnson lead option attack put the Wolverines out of the game with 24 seconds left when bolden crossed the goal line from 4yards out.

    Northern Illinois vs Miami, Oh.

Coach Forever had his hands full in his debut with The Northern Illinois Huskies. Coach Forever was hired after former Coach Jerry Kill stepped down due to family affairs. The Huskies were 3-2(2-0) at the time of this mid season hire.

This game was back and forth with neither defense putting up much resistance. Miami scored first on a 62 td run by T. Merriweather with 5:26 left in the first qtr. People were still entering the stadium and the Huskies were already down 7-0. The Huskies would come right back with a drive of their own which was capped off with a 8 yd td run by back up RB R. Snider.

The second qtr saw Northern Illinois take what looked like a commanding lead with an int return for a td and a late td pass from C. Harnish. The Huskies took a 21-7 halftime lead.

Miami had other thoughts in mind. They outscored the Huskies 21-7 in the third qtr behind some big pass plays of M Scherpenberg and on the legs of T. Merriweather to tie the game at 28-28 heading into the fourth qtr.

The fourth qtr was a gut check for each team. The Huskies struck first with a 13 yd pass to WR N. Palmer from C. Harnish to take a 7 point lead with 5:19 remaining in the game. After each team had a tcouple of three and outs, Miami once again relied on the running of T. Merriweather. He went straight up the middle; breaking 5 individual tackles on route to a 62 yd td run which tied the game again with 2:49 remaining. (I wish I knew how to download game footage to the game. It was the best and worst play I have ever been a part of. Worst because 3 of those breaks were on me and best because I had never seen that done before!!!)

Anyway, The Huskies took their time and drove down the field to chew up as much time as possible. It was 2nd and 7 on the 9 yd line with 25 seconds left. Coach Forever called a run play to set up what he thought would be a game winning field goal attempt. However, third string RB C Spann refused to go down. He broke two tackles and dove into the ednzone with 9 sec remaining to seal the victory for The Northern Illinois Huskies.

The win improved The Huskies season record to 4-2(3-0). Next week Northern Illinois takes on an under-achieving Kent squad who are currently 1-4(0-2) on the season.

    Final Score:

    NIU- 42

CHIPPEWAS BUILD SECOND HALF STEAM, FLY PAST OHIO 41-19

CHIPPEWAS BUILD SECOND HALF STEAM, FLY PAST OHIO 41-19

The Central Michigan Chippewas (5-1,3-0) improve to perfect in conference play after defeating the Ohio Bobcats (4-2,2-1). The Bobcats had also been perfect in conference play up until this point but were silenced in a second half charge by the Chippewas. Both teams put up tons of offense. Bobcats excelled on the ground with 223 yards and the Chippewas led the way with 290 yards passing. CMU entered the lockerooms at halftime up only 7 points and was not able to stop Ohio's runningback, Harden, who rushed for 225 yards on the day. After halftime Harden was injured on Ohio's first play and would leave the rest of the game. This opened the flood gates for CMU who scored 20 unanswered points.

Central Michigan stalled on the ground without SR HB Bryan Schroeder but had a standout performance from backup HB Paris Cotton who rushed for 60 yards with 4 short TD's. SR QB Derek Rifenbury showed everyone why he is one of the top rated QB's in the nation, going 17-24 with 290 yards passing and 1 TD.

Central Michigan's defense struggled to hold Ohio on the ground but after Harden left the game with an injury, They held the bobcats to negative yards on the ground and only 109 passing yards.

The Chippewas have a bye next week and will start to prepare for their back to back tough road games against Toledo and Northern Illinois.

BOWLING GREEN DEFEATS BUFFALO 20 - 13 IN OT THRILLER

BOWLING GREEN, Oh -- In a must win game for the Falcons, Bowling Green managed to rally from a 13 - 3 4th quarter deficit to defeat the Buffalo Bulls 20 -13 in Overtime.

Suprisingly, the game was a defensive struggle. Bowling Green only managed 244 yards of total offense while Buffalo managed only 173 yards. BG Star running back Willie Geter continues to struggle. He was held to 59 yards on 17 carries and did not score a touchdown.

The turning point in the game happened in the 3rd quarter. With Buffalo up 10 - 3 and seemingly in control of the game, Senior Bull RB Brandon Themilus was injured with a pinched nerve. At the time of injury, BG had really no answer for him. He finished the game with 73 yards rushing on 17 carries for a 4.2 yard per carry average. His backup, J. Gill, was not nearly as successful. Gill rushed for only 18 yards on 9 carries.

To get back in the game, BG needed to rely on new QB Bart Tanski (freshman starting his first game replacing Matt Schilz). He led the Falcons on two drives in the fourth including the a 2 minute drive leading to a 36 yard game tying field goal (ICED!) with 1 second left on the clock. Tanksi would finish with decent statistics - 15 of 28 for 196 yards and 1 TD.

In the OT, Buffalo won the toss and elected to go on defense. The Bulls D would forced BG into a 3rd and 11 from the 26. On the 3rd down, BG QB Tanksi would see Freshman WR Hopgood breaking open on a corner route in the end zone for a 26 yard TD reception to give BG the lead. Buffalo would then proceed throw a 4th down interception to give BG the comeback win.

GREAT GAME, BC. Honestly, if your back doesn't go down, I doubt I win. Good luck the rest of the way.

Colorado State gives one away at the end

In a hard fought battle where CSU put up 21 first half points, it was BYU's offense that got the last laugh.

Going into the 4th quarter trailing 23-21, CSU took their drive the distance as RB John Mosure popped it in from 3 yds away. Just under 3 minutes later, BYU answered back with a big run from RB Harvey Unga. His 26 yd scamper was capped off with a successful 2pt conversion that put BYU up by 3. Not to be outdone, CSU's dynamite returner, WR Jyrone Hickman took the kick into BYU territory. The very next play, Mosure kept it out of the "Wild Ram" and went left for the 48yd breakaway and the TD. With over two minutes remaining, the BYU offense started to roll again through the air. The Rams had no answer for the passing game, as limited pressure gave QB Nelson all day to find an open target. And finally he found one in the endzone, as :36 remained on the clock. CSU failed on their attempt to reach FG range, and failed again to clinch a victory. It has been a rough few weeks in Fort Collins, as the Rams have dropped four in a row. Up next is long time rival, Wyoming. Here is to better days ahead.

    Mike
