CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Jake Delhomme got up, his shoulder pads sticking out and his chin strap bunched around his mouth. He pumped both fists and yelled a triumphant cry.
His ninth interception of the season earlier in the day? Forgotten.
Delhomme’s bold bootleg pass for a touchdown on third-and-8 to Steve Smith sealed the Panthers victory over the Bills 31-21 on Sunday.
“Anything that could have gone wrong the first month or so has gone wrong,” Delhomme said. “We’ll take it any way we can get it.”
Delhomme finished the day passing 13-for-15, for 190 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Carolina started the game with an injury to KR/HB J. Stewart that left some doubt as to who would pound the rock up the gut. Free agent acquisition TJ Duckett quickly answered with a 44 yard rush up the left which would eventually setup a 1-yd run by DeAngelo Williams.
Buffalo would come out running the ball and answered with a 14yd run by Fred Jackson.
In the 2nd quarter, Steve Smith would assert his dominance, while Terrell Owens would get frustrated by CB Chris Gamble. Smith got on the board with a 6yd touchdown reception, and DeAngelo Williams would add another 1yd TD. The score at the half was 24-7 for the Panthers as Buffalo would not be able to convert on 4th and 1 which lead to a FG to end the half.
T.O. would be vindicated in the 3rd frame, with a wicked 3-yd grab in triple coverage for 6pts.
Both team offenses would sputter for most of the second half, but Buffalo would gamble on 4th and inches a few times and pulled within 3pts on a touchdown pass from Edwards to Lee Evans in the fourth.
Unable to stop the running game, and with playaction keeping the defense guessing, Carolina would end the game with a 5:36 drive capped by Steve Smiths second TD of the game to give the Panthers the win 31-21.
Great game Goth, and very nice offense. GL the rest of the way.
Vikes vs Steelers
EJ Henderson continued his hot streak, forcing 2 Willie Parker fumbles that were returned for TD's as the Vikings went into the Steel City and won another hard fought game 38-17.
The Vikings again relied on their opportunistic defense which forced 6 Pittsburgh turnovers and the offense continued to do just enough to keep pace with the 5-0 Bears. The defense accounted for 21 points with Cedric Griffin returning an INT for a score, and both Winfield and Greenway picking up fumbles caused by EJ "Hitstick" Henderson and rumbling in for scores.
On offense the Vikings did little through the air, but got nice contributions from Ian Johnson and Chester Taylor to help keep the defense rested. Coach Tankwillis is obviously eagerly awaiting the retrun of AD and Farve in the hopes that his team won't continue to rely on a defense that has played above expectations.
GG Hoyt look forward to more.
Note: The league is starting to become suspicious of Henderson and will look to test him for steroids in the near future.
Yes it's pee in the cup time for him. LOL
GG tankwillis GL the rest and against the bears. I hear there coach is a real asshole. LOL
Lord knows we have someone to administer the test.... Where's that meathawk emoticon? Caaaw caaaw!
LOL FU mags
As you guys are aware, Minnesota law protects players - see Kevin and Pat Williams - from league imposed punishment regarding performance enhancers. Sorry fellas - you're SOL
And as luck would have it I am leaving on vacation on Friday October 24th and won't be returning until November 1st. I am hopng to get the Bears game in the night of the 23rd, but if not I think he'll get to beat up on the CPU. So consider this an advance scheduling of our week 10 game. Thursday, October 22nd - 10pm Est
The Skins would see their opening kickoff go 97 yards on a pretty return from DeSean Jackson. Unfortunately for the Eagles, he would be tripped up at the 3 yard line by Roderick Hood. The defense would make a stand and the Eagles would be forced to kick the field goal.
After a Redskins touchdown on a play action pass to Sellers, Jackson would get another chance to get the Eagles going. This time he would try a spin move and get blasted by Kevin Barnes and returned for the quick touchdown.
Turnovers would be the undoing for the Eagles as the Skins would grab three interceptions on the day (including two by Hayensworth).
A field goal by the Eagles and two by the Skins would make it a 20-6 game at the half.
The Skins would add another touchdown in the third on a pitch to Warrick Dunn and end their scoring with another field goal. The Eagles would get a late touchdown to their tight end Celek.
Nice Game Kahn. You couldn't just let him score the TD, could you? It's not like that was going to be your undoing. Throw me a Bone!!!
PS - it's S-T-Y-K. Just like it's not kaHn.
The Rams hold on to beat the Colts 24-17. Bulger tried his best to give away the game with two picks in the redzone, one resulting in a COlts TD to give them the lead, but HB Jackson put the Rams on his shoulder and led the team to a win. Bulger passed for a couple of TD passes to try and make up for his picks.
GG CPU, you clock running, offensive audlibling cheat....
Falcons vs Saints
Saints drive down the length of the field and R Bush punched it in for 6.
Falcons had a 12 play drive that faltered on the 31 in the 2nd, and kicked it through for 3, but on the ensuing drive the Saints fumbled with 1 min to go in the half and Atlanta ran it in to go up 10-7 at the break.
Saints drive down the field in 11 plays for a score, Falcons go 71 yds on 1st play of drive for the 6. 17-14 Falcons
All Saints as 2 long drives eat up the clock for 2 scores, then an INT goes back 86 yards. Falcons throw a 39 yd pass for the T.D., but too little too late
Great game Rich!!! always fun.
