Gabbert And Stingy Defense Leads To Big Jags Victory

The Jaguars came into their game against Houston hoping to rebound to .500. It was a hard fought game that was closer than the score indicates but the Jags were able to achieve that behind Gabbert's efficiency and a run defense that completely shut down Arian Foster and made things tough for Matt Schaub.

The Jags won the toss but elected to kick the ball to the Texans. Houston was able to move the ball and were able to get down near Jacksonville's 20 yard line. The drive stalled though and they kicked a FG to take the lead 3-0.

The Jags would get the ball and would also go on a long drive. Houston forced many 3rd downs but Jacksonville was able to convert every time. In the 1st play of the 2nd quarter, Blaine Gabbert hit Jason Hill on an 18 yard post route for a TD to take the lead 7-3.

Houston would punt on their next possession and the Jags were at it again. The Texans were very stiff against the run and were shutting down Tiki Barber for the most part at this point. The Jags needed Gabbert to step up and he did. The Jags drove down the field again and Gabbert ended up connecting with TE Zach Miller for a 7 yard TD with just over 2 minutes remaining in the half..

The Texans would get the ball back and would move quickly down the field and got down to Jacksonville's 1 yard line. However, the Jags defense stood tough and held the Texans to a FG for a 14-6 lead at the half.

Jacksonville got the ball at the start of the 2nd half but couldn't do anything with it. They would punt the ball to the Texans. On the Texans' possession, Schaub would force a pass towards a TE that was being covered by Rasheen Mathis. Mathis easily picked it off and returned it to the house for a TD and a 21-6 lead.

The Texans would struggle on their next possession as well and would punt it to the Jags. Gabbert would read a heavy blitz from the Texans and just dumped a quick pass over the top to Marcedes Lewis. Lewis took it 63 yards into the Texans' red zone. A few plays later, Gabbert would connect with Lewis again for an 11 yard TD pass. The lead was now 28-6.

The Texans would again punt after their next possession. This time though, Tiki Barber was able to break through Houston's defense for a 65 yard TD run to make it 35-6.

The 2 teams would trade possessions for the most of the rest of the game. The Texans would add a TD though on a 5 yard pass from Schaub to Owen Daniels making the final score 35-13.
