    Week 8 Summaries

    Aztecs are Bowl Eligible!

San Diego State races out to a 35-0 lead over the New Mexico Lobos and cruises to a 41-13 victory. Davon Brown was named Player of the Game after he scored 3 1st half rushing touchdowns. The big news of the day was the new wrinkle in the Aztecs offense. Freshman :4stars:running back Adam Henry caught 7 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown in his first game at receiver.

"He's just so explosive and he makes plays. We've got Brandon (Sullivan) and Davon (Brown) who are ahead of him at running back, so we needed to find a way to get him on the field and after one game, we're ecstatic about the results." Coach Alexander said after the game. "That drag showed everyone why we had to find a place for him."

The drag Coach Alexander is referring to, was a 62-yard gain in the 2nd quarter when Henry caught a pass over the middle, ran over a cornerback, outran a safety, and was only tackled at the 2 yardline because the free safety had an angle on him. San Diego State was very efficient in the 1st half 4 touchdowns on their 1st 4 possessions. Brown capped off the 1st 2 drives with touchdown runs of 3 and 1 yards. On the last play of the 1st quarter, Nat Berhe cut underneath a Lobo receiver to intercept a pass and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown to make the score 21-0.

The 2nd quarter started with the Aztecs defense getting their 4th straight stop of the Lobos offense. San Diego State then went 64 yards on 2 plays, both passes to Henry. The 1st was the 62-yard drag, the 2nd was a 2-yard touchdown catch on an out. The much improved Aztec defense got yet another stop on the Lobos ensuing possession and Brown scored his 3rd touchdown of the day on a 9-yard pitch to put San Diego State up 28-0. New Mexico was finally able to put some points up on the board on a 19-yard touchdown catch by C Hernandez on a pass from B Gruner with just under a minute left in the half. San Diego State got the ball down to the Lobo 21 yardline and Brian Stahovich kicked a 38-yard field goal as time expired in the half to send the Aztecs to the lockeroom with a 38-7 lead.

When the Aztecs returned to the field, the starters watched from the sidelines as the Aztecs chewed clock letting Henry rack up 47 yards on 18 carries. Stahovich added another field goal in the 3rd quarter, then Hernandez and Gruner hooked up again with 3 and a half minutes left in the game for a 16 yard consolation touchdown. Final score: San Diego State 41 New Mexico 13.

    Northern Illinois vs Kent State

The game was close until midway through the second qtr. The Husky offense couldn't do much of anything on the ground against the 3-4 scheme employed by Kent. They were relentless in their efforts to contain RB Meco Brown, who returned from from an injury that keep him out of the game last week.

However, this is when RS JR QB Chandler Harnish stepped up his game. He rushed and passed for second qtr scores as NIU built a 27-10 halftime lead. He came out just as he had finished the first half. He added 2 more td passes in the third qtr as the Huskies pulled away from Kent State.

    Final Score:

    NIU- 40

    Kent St- 10

    Player of the Game

Nevada loses a tough one at Louisiana Tech

This was a game decided by turnovers. Nevada threw 4 int's and fumbled the ball once. LTU were able to capitalize on these errors with dominant field position throughout the game.
    1st Qtr
LTU first offensive drive was an efficient one converting a 3rd and 16 with a post route and ran it in for a TD from 16 yards out. On the next possession Nev answered with a 24 yard TD pass from SR QB C. Kaepernick to WR B. Wimberly. C.Kaepernick (the best player on team) gets injured and will be out for 11 weeks.

    2nd Qtr
LTU dominated with a fumble recovery and 2ints. From these turnovers they were able to drive it in for TDs and one missed FG.
SR RB M.Taua gets injured Score 21-7 LTU

    3rd Qtr
Nevada's JR QB C.Louks was able to find WR M.Patterson open for a 75 yard TD.
    21-14 LTU

    4th Qtr
Nevada stops LTU on two possessions for punts but Nevada has to punts as well. Finally Nevada got their offense and drives it down the field to punch it in with JR RB J.Morgan.
Nevada stops LTU's offense again but throw interceptions on their next two possessions while LTU drains the clock and scores one more time with a 26 yards pass.

Final Score Nev 21 LTU 28

    Bowling Green (2-4) @ Western Michigan (1-6)

FRESHMAN QB TANKSI LEADS FALCONS PAST THE BRONCOS

KALAMAZOO, Mi -- In his first start as a Falcon, Freshman QB Bart Tanski (former 2007 Mr. Ohio Football Award Winner that walked on to BG) threw for 308 yards and 2 touchdowns to defeat Western Michigan, 44 - 24. For the second game this season, the BG offense showed signs of life. The offense totaled 425 yards of total offense including 132 from the combination of Willie Geter and Freshman Mark Mays.

In other news - BG landed it's first 4* star recruit. WR James Ball from Ocoee, Florida. (Obviously, it is big news when any four star from Florida chooses Bowling Green, Ohio to play football)

Up next for the Falcons - at Akron (2-4)

The only part of that game in question that was dumb luck was that punt that was intended to pin you deep in the last 30 seconds. Otherwise, that game could have went either way. Also the game paid me me back in the fact that Boise State beat me on a KO return for a TD with under 1 min left, the next week or so.

I know this is game summaries but I am requesting a home and home with wherever both T2 and I end up starting next season.
