Matt Ryan and Co came into Indy ready to play some football after their bye week, and try to take out Peyton Manning and the Colts.
The game started off well for the Falcons, stopping the Colts offense and forcing a 3-and-out on the game's first possession. From there, the Falcons drove the ball down on the Colts D, combining the power running game of Michael Turner with Matty Ice through the air. Turner got them down most of the way, but it was Matt Ryan throwing a 13 yard TD strike to rookie Julio Jones for the game's first score. After another Indy drive stalling, the Falcons next drive was all Turner on the ground, pounding his way into the RedZone before punching it in from 4 yards out, making the score 14-0. After a Donald Brown fumble, the Falcons then went down field again, looking to deliver the knockout blow in the first half, but the Colts D came up big on a 3rd and 2 inside their 30, forcing a Falcon FG, making it 17-0 with 1:47 left in the half. The Colts tried to answer back, but Peyton Manning was picked off in the endzone by Thomas DeCoud, then the Falcons ran the first half clock out taking a 17-0 lead into halftime.
After a slow start to the third quarter, the Falcons again found themselves celebrating a TD as Matt Ryan connected with future HOFer Tony Gonzalesin the corner of the end zone on a 7 yard TD pass to make it 24-0 with less than a minute left in the 3rd quarter. On the next Colts offensive possession, Manning, who had all day to throw, found Pierre Garcon coming back down the left sideline for a 15 yard completion...but a missed tackle by the Falcons let Garcon get away for an 80 yard TD, followed by a Manning to Wayne 2-point conversion to make it 24-8 with 0:21 left in the 3rd.
The next Falcon possession stalled, and Peyton Manning led the Colts down the field again for a TD pass to Dallas Clark, but they took up a lot of time, leaving them only 1:55 to play, but still had all 3 timeouts. Manning found Wayne again for the 2-point conversion making the score 24-16. The Colts, with all 3 timeouts remaining, decided to kick it deep to the Falcons, and that was all she wrote. 3 Turner runs later, and a first down for the Falcons, enabled them to run out the clock letting them escape Indy with the victory.
