UTEP 48 vs Southern Miss 7.
Well on a Rainy day in El Paso, Texas things didn't start out to well for the Miners as on the opening Kick Southern Miss's Travis Lampley took a 98 yard kick return back which killed the Miners confidence completely. Those were the only points that were scored in the first quarter alone. Then the second quarter came around and the miners finally got their mojo going driving down the field controlling the clock and able to score with 3:14 left in the second quarter tying the game at 7 a piece. Southern Miss had to punt with only a minute left in the game. UTEP trying to score again see's that Southern Miss is coming with a blitz Meger audibles and hits Kemp on a long bomb setting them up for another rushing TD by Joe Baynard putting us up 14-7. And from there on out UTEP just dominated through the air and on the ground. Carson Meger was 12-25 for 314 yards 2 TD's and 2 INT's while Joe Baynard ran for 246 yards and 4 TD's. The UTEP defense just played out of their mind forcing 2 INT's and 1 fumble. We take on Rice next week for another C-USA matchup.
Blazers Earn Third Win Of Season, 42-28
This game started off slow, as both offenses struggled out of the gate. Marshall was first to strike though, on a 31 yard touchdown pass from QB AJ Graham to WR Aaron Dobson. UAB slowly began to drive down the field, but HB Pat Shed coughed up the ball, giving Marshall the ball. But on the first play of the ensuing drive, Blazers CB Terrell Springs jumped a curl route and returned the interception for a pick-six to tie the game at 7. UAB got the ball back, but Shed would fumble once again, and Marshall FS Omar Brown picked the ball up and returned it 68 yards to take the lead back, 14-7. But Blazers QB Bryan Ellis came onto the field with great confidence, and drove his team down the field, eventually scoring on a 11 yard touchdown pass from Ellis to WR Nolen Smith. Halftime Score: 14-14 Tie.
UAB came out strong out of the half scoring on the first drive, with a 68 yard bomb from Ellis to WR Jackie Williams. After a Marshall turnover UAB drove down the field and extended their lead to 14, thanks to a 3 yard rush by HB Greg Franklin. The Thundering Herd would then answer back after a long and successful drive, which was capped off with a 3 yard touchdown pass from Graham to WR Antavious Wilson. In the fourth quarter, UAB's Shed would make up for his two previous fumbles by scoring two consecutive touchdowns. (4 yards, 67 yards.) Marshall would eventually answer back but it was too little, too late as Coach Lung earned his third career win.
