NOTE: The first game d/c in 4th quarter with game tied.

After a disappointing last minute loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8, the Minnesota Vikings came into this Week 9 matchup vs the Giants still carrying the hangover from the Cardinals loss. "Back to Basics" was the montra for the week & the Vikings did just that.

Both teams went to their respective ground games early. The Vikings used the combo of Peterson & Gerhart and the G-Men went their stellar HB tandem of MJD & Ahmad Bradshaw. But neither combo were able to find pay dirt early.

The 1st quarter was a quiet one in regards to scoring, only highlighted by a Eli Manning to Sidney Rice 4-yd TD pass with :07 remaining on the 1st quarter clock.

The G-Men stuck with the run game but they were unable to put any 1st half points up. The Vikings found the endzone agina in the 2nd quarter when Manning found WR Massaquio on the left sideline and hit him between the zone coverage for the 25-yd pass, catch & score.

The ground attack continued on both sides but the long run fireworks were absent. The Vikings managed to move the ball to inside the Giants 10-yd line when QB Mike Vick would get his first game action as a Vikings. The first playcall was a playaction, rollout to the right. Vick would shake loose on tackler and at the last second find eligible WR, Offensive Tackle Phillip Loadholt in the corner of the endzone. Vick would fire a laser and Loadholt would hold onto the ball for the 2-yd TD pass.

The Giants did break their scoring drought late in the 4th when All-Pro MJD found the endzone for 8-yards out. But it was too little too late as the Vikings continued to pound the ball right at the Giants defense and close out the game.

Stat of the Day: Vikings ran the ball 36 times for 162 yds.

GG Dave. Sucks that our first game was a d/c as both our teams were racking up some good stats.
