As you many of you know, I am in the process of a move from Alabama to Tennessee. My new apartment is full of boxes and my wife and I are very excited to get our new baby situated.

However, yesterday, I was floored by a problem that is making me a little upset that I was not told by my landlord. I went to my local Comcast (only cable internet option) to turn on service at my apartment. That's when the guy at the desk looks up my address and tells me...

"I'm sorry sir, this is not a serviceable apartment. Your landlord would have to pay $1,248 to install a 6' telephone wire to your apartments."

Here is the kicker. The apartments are very good location and only about 2,000 feet from the main drag. Not to mention, this is a new apartment complex that only has 4 connected apartments. I am apartment D. APARTMENT A & B are serviceable, but C&D are not?!

I called my landlord, and she apologized for not telling me...smh. Yeah, that was sort of important. She said my only option is AT&T and Dish. I looked them up, and they are in fact the same thing (they work together to make a package apparently.)

This is the best package I can get -

This is 24 MBPS less than what I had with Comcast. Is 6 MBps serviceable to play online games, or will I constantly lag?

Unfortunately yes, plus I drove my 26' truck back to Oak Ridge (an hour away) and I have all of my things situated in my house (except unpacking my boxes of course).

I didn't find this out until I had just turned on my electricity and water.

Where I live hardline DSL is not available in any form. I use an ATT laptop air card with a Cradlepoint wireless router. I play on connections at half the speed your going to get with minimal lag. You should be good to go.

Man, that would have worked great. 12 MBps would have been great I think.

This might be a breach on contract. However because there are other options you might be SOL

    Man, that sucks.

I will see what I can do. Comcast basically has a monopoly in my town near Knoxville.

So, 6 mbps is not fast enough to play :(

I don't watch tv - I play online football and read books when I'm not spending time with the family.

Honestly, while 6 mpbs isnt extremly fast, it should be good enough to play tbqh. While you may not be playing optimally, you still should be able to play the games, especially away games.

That would be good news. I will have to buy it, as it is my only option. I can try to play a ranked game and see how it plays.

I honestly think you'll be okay Josh. It's not going to be the greatest but I don't think its going to be unplayable either.

Check your ping's at speedtest.net and see how it goes.

Sweet, I'll check it. I guess I'll order it today and hopefully they can have it installed by tomorrow at the latest. I'll run a speed test and see what it's looking like.

Yeah bro, you'll be fine. The only problems you may have is hosting games against other users that dont have a strong connection tbqh.

I just tested mine and I have no idea if it is good or not...

My results are 25 ping, 21.94 DL speed, Upload Speed- 2.35

I ask this because I have an opportunity to change providers at the end of this month, and wondering if this was sub-standard connection.

I havent had a probelem playing, so I probably wont fix something that isnt broken.

I had a MUCH worse connection at my parent's house and my issue wasn't the speed of games itself, it was keeping the games online because it was a wireless signal going through floors that were not designed with internet in mind.

I honestly think that if you get a wired connection to your Xbox, you'll be fine.

Sounds like you have ~20 mbps connection. Honestly, unless what you're switching to is cheaper and isnt any slower I wouldnt switch.
