July 23, 2012 | By CTfromDC | The Terp Post-Game Report College Park, MD -- On a rainy Monday night in New Jersey, in front of a capacity crowd of 52,454, The Terps were able to steal a victory from the Scarlet Knights....It started as a defense battle, with the the Knights being able to methodically run the ball at a steady pace before the Terps D got a stop and forced a field goal. The Terps would get a field goal later in the first to tie the game at 3 - 3. The second quarter belonged to the Knights, as they would put up 10 unanswered behind a solid run game and accurate quick strikes from Nova through the air. At the half, the Terps seemed "Shell-Shocked", with no answers for the Knights ,until, their break came in the third. A scoop 6 by the Redshirt Freshman Lukas Foreman to bring the Terrapins within a field goal. The defensive would hold the Knights blank in the third. The fourth quarter is where it gets interesting. Down by 3, Terps surrender another touchdown to Sophomore Halfback Jawan Jamison on a screen play, beautifully called by the O-Coordinator to combat the over aggressive Terps. The Terps would fall back to 10 down. Terp nation must have sent up many prayers and they were answered. With a chance to put the game away, Deluisa missed a chip shot that would have put the Knights up by 13. The Terps began there drive to on offense. CJ Brown connected with a receiver to put the Terps 18 yards away from paydirt. In what may be the call of the young year, Coach Edsall sent out his FG unit to attempt a try from 35 yards, with 2:11 left, 1st and 10, so that he could leave it up to his defense to get the ball back. Tart made it, Terps down by 7, we have a game folks. The defense forces a three and out, but used all their timeouts in the process. One last chance, or so we thought at the time. CL Brown ran the two minute offense like a professional and ended the drive with an 8 yard pass to Burns for a TD with :44 seconds left, tieing the game at 20 - 20. It was up to the Terps defense. Could they stop the Knights who had run the balll all over them all night? It didn't look good. Nova connected on two huge pass plays, that put the Knights in position to kick the game winning fieldgoal with :08 left in regulation. With no timeouts to ice the kicker, the Terps needed a miracle. And that's what they got. WIDE RIGHT, WIDE RIGHT! Deluisa missed another field goal! Not content with just going to OT, and depending on a stagnant offense, Edsall called a Hail Mary, that was answered in a big way. CJ Brown to Boykins for 80 yards for the score to give the Terps the improbable win. Unbelievable. The Terps steal a victory. There is NO WAY they should have won. Give all credit to Rutgers, they played a hell of a SIM game, and I feel for them. They let one slip away. Hopefully the Terps can build on this win and get better.
