    Week1
Kansas State knocks off Notre Dame 42-28

KSU and ND traded scores for most of the game with two very different styles:

    - KSU managed to dink and dunk their way all over the field against an over aggressive ND defense
    - ND regularly went for bombs that turned into quick scores.

    What it came down?
    - Clausen got hurt in the 4th Q, leaving QB Crist to run the offense. It sputtered.
    - KSU's red zone perfection, scoring TDs on all 6 trips to the redzone.

    Player of the game:
    RB Thomas
    22car for 105yds (4.7ypc) and 3 TD

    KSU improves to 1-0.
Up next a trip to UL Lafayette.

Wait until you use Jarell Childs. You will really like him. He is a powerful runner.

    Week 2:

    K-State bottles up ULL
    KSU 41 - ULL 0

A yawner by halftime (38-0 at the half), many future KSU stars had a chance to get more than 2Q's of valuable game experience. H22-- Childs got a few carries and he was quite powerful.

ULL had no answer for WR Banks, he finished his day after scoring 21 points in the first quarter! He had 5 catches for 125yds and 3TDs. ULL also could not solve the KSU defense as they could only muster 69yards of offense and threw 4 INTs. Four different Wildcats combined for 8 sacks.

    TOP 18:07 vs 7:54.

Note: I had the opportunity to score like 4 more TDs, but ended up taking a bunch of knees. The 2nd team played the entire 2nd half.

Dold is tough also. I don't know where he is on the new rosters though. He beat me up this year in BfR in one of my OoC games. In GG, I just started with KSU and he is not on the team anymore. I believe we are in 2012, so most likely graduated.

    KSU edges TTU

    Scoring Summary
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
    - 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
    TTU (MrBits) 7 7 7 7 28
    KSU 14 14 7 0 35

    What it came down to;
Both teams traded long bombs for TD's as corners were regularly caught out of position, beat deep.

Statistically these two teams were very similar:
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3
    Category KSU TTU
    Total Offense 364 337
    First downs 12 13
    Red zone eff. 2 of 2 2 of 2
    Total yards 504 511
    TOP 12:09 11:51

The game, oddly enough came down to a costly pick 6 thrown early in the 1st quarter.

    Comp Passes Yards TDs Ints
    QB Gregory 13 18 259 4 0

and 3 rushes for 15yds. All three were critical 3rd down conversions.

    Up next:
With the win KSU improve to 6-0 (2-0 in BigXII). Next game @TAMU (Cimmy) will finally settle the question that is unnerving KSU fans -- is KSU a contender?

KSU holds on to victory over TAMU

    Scoring Summary
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
    - 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
    TAMU (Cimmy) 7 7 7 14 35
    KSU 0 21 7 10 38

    What it came down to;
TAMU wasn't able to recover from a 2nd quarter meltdown. KSU managed to score their 2nd TD of the quarter with 0:52 left. Instead of running out the clock, TAMU wanted to get points. They ended up turning the ball over and allowing 7 more points.

In the 4th Q TAMU mounted a furious comeback aided by some long passes and an onside kick recovery. The final onside kick (which would TAMU the ball with about 0:15 left) was unsuccesful.

    Statistically:
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3
    Category KSU TAMU
    Total Offense 348 357
    Yards rushing 177 128
    Yards passing 171 229
    First downs 20 9
    Red zone eff. 5 of 5 4 of 4
    Turnovers 0 2
    TOP 18:11 7:41

    * KSU dominated the clock as they held on to the ball 2.4 times more than TAMU
    * Having very similar yardage it is evident that KSU moved the ball methodically (20 first downs) while TAMU relied on the big play (9 first downs)
*Story of the game came down to 2 costly turnovers.

Note: we had to restart so we simmed the game until the end of the 1st Q. I also had a turnover in the restarted game that doesn't show up in the stats. 65 of TAMUs rushing yards came from the 'sim' effect. KSU did a very good job containing TAMU's rushing (just under 4ypc) in 'live play'.

    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
Player of the game: Comp Passes Yards TDs Ints
    QB Gregory 17 21 171 2 0

and 6 rushes for 24yards and 1 big (14yd) TD run on an option keeper.

    Up next:
KSU stands at 7-0 and 3-0 in BigXII play. Currently ranked #16 (before the new polls).

Next they host #15 Colorado (ryty)

    KSU squeaks past Mizzou

    Scoring Summary
    - 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
    Miz 0 7 0 7 14
    KSU 3 7 7 0 17

    What it came down to;
In the last minute of the 2nd quarter Mizzou had the ball down 10-7. KSU gets a sack and with 30 secs left opts to call a timeout. They get the ball and on the ensuing play dump the ball low to a WR. He gets crushed and fumbles. Mizzou picks it up and runs it to the 1yd line where the KSU QB makes the tackle. With 0:08 left on the clock KSU decides to run on 1st down and is stuffed. With 0:04 and inside the one they run a toss play, get stuffed and get no points out of it as time expires in the half.

In the early 3rd quarter, Mizzou knocked out QB Gregory. Literally, knocked out (concussion). Later the team would learn that Gabbert is done for the season. This put the offense into the inexperienced hands of Coffman.

Coffman was only called upon to throw four passes, but he managed to make one play that was the play of the game: an 85yd TD bomb to WR Banks. Banks got behind the coverage and outran everyone to the endzone.

KSU would end up squeaking out a 3 point victory as they were able to hold the ball for most of the 4th Q. Looking back, the non decision to kick decided the game.

    Player of the game:
WR Banks, that made a great catch in traffic and outran pretty much the entire Mizzou secondary for 85yd TD that would define the game.

    Up next:
A very tough Nebraska team, for a berth in the ccg.

    #7 KSU overpowers #8 Nebraska

    Scoring Summary
    - 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
    KSU 10 14 3 14 41
    Nebraska 7 7 0 0 14

    What it came down to;
KSU had no answer for Nebraska RB Roy Helu... but inexplicably
the coach took the ball out of his hands. Helu finished the day
    with 13 carries for 112yds and 2TDs.

The inexperienced QB Coffman led the Wildcats offense well. He
finished the day 18 of 26 for 207yds and 3TD. Coffman was
stepping in for the injured QB Gregory.

    Player of the game:
RB Thomas, rushed 25 times for 117yds and a TD. He also added a
receiving TD on a perfectly executed screen pass.

    Up next:
A CCG vs. either Texas or Oklahoma State

    KSU Presser:

"I am extremely proud of this football team. We have shown
heart, perseverance, toughness, fundamentals and exceptional
physical endurance to make it to this point. Most pundits had
written us off before the season began, but I knew this team
was different early in the preseason...

That day, I walked around the locker after a grueling preseason
practice, it was rainy, chilly evening and 10 kids had puked... I
walked around and I looked into each and every one of those
young mens eyes...and I didnt see fear...

    I saw hunger."
