    Windows 7 for students $30

If you have an .edu address you can call 1-877-my-ms-store and order a copy of Windows 7 for only $29.99.

Options are: Premium or Professional, DVD or Download, Full Retail version or upgrade.

You will need a .edu e-mail address. You don't have to confirm if you are a student or not with the e-mail, so as long as you know someone who has one, you could probably place the order.

    Orders will ship on 10/22/2009.

Windows 7 Home Professional is $299.99 retail, normally.

It's what Vista should have been. Basically a fixed version of Vista with a few new perks.

I need a copy of it for my Home Theater PC since Windows 7 Media Center is going to be a lot better.

For $30 it is definitely worth it.

I've been using Windows 7 since February. Signed up for the beta then and followed up using RC1 in June.

IMO its a great OS. Basically takes the good things from XP (namely it isn't as resource intensive), some good things from Vista (some of the flashy UI stuff) and aspects from Mac OS X (shortcuts on the task bar) and rolls them into a nice overall package.

Non-students might still be able to pre-order the upgrade version for $49 from Best Buy and other places.

I haven't seen any cheap pre-order deals that are still running besides this one. There was one a month or so ago for $44 through Best Buy I think, but last I heard it was dead. I will keep an eye out though. I was in on the Beta as well, but decided not to deal with a beta version while I was still in school and working on important projects.

Like I said, now that I have an HTPC, this is more of a must for me. Vista Media Center just falls short in a number of areas for this use.
