New Orleans - Savage Mason Reporting

The New Orleans Saints (6-5) came back home after being on the road for the past few weeks to face a red hot New England Patriots (8-3) team who was trying to wrap up their playoff aspirations. One team was struggling while the other was rolling right along with their season. Over the past few weeks the Saints had gotten their running game going and their defense has finally started to jell. 'What i envisioned when making our moves on defense is finally coming together. We are finally starting to see the rb in westbrook that we thought we had traded for, and our wr's are some of the best in the league. We really feel good about our team, we just have struggled on all aspects and especially in close games this year.

The Saints would win the toss and elect to defer. Right away the Pats would test them and the Saints defense would answer the call early. One a 3rd down pass, Saints OLB Barnes steps in front and picks it off to set the Saints up in great field position. RB Westbrook would punch it in from 2 yards out, his first of 3 on the day. 7-0 Saints.

On the next drive the Pats looked, again, to get something going. This time Brady would throw into triple coverage and CB Washington would come down with it and return it 52 yards, putting a great move on Brady to get in the endzone and get the Saints out to an early 14-0 lead.

Brady would finally get things going though. On their next drive Welker stepped up to carry this team on his back. Welker hauled in a 76 yard td pass from brady to make it 14-7 Saints. Welker would prove to be a pain all day long for the Saints to cover.

New Orleans would answer the bell with a great drive of their own. This time capping it off with a Westbrook 3 yard dive to make it 21-7 Saints. Brees and Henderson finally got things going, but the Saints would really work hard on getting the running game going as well. This was Westbrooks 2nd of the day, and it was only the 1st quarter.

If the 1st quarter belonged to the Saints, then the 2nd and 3rd belonged to the Pats. Pats would come out on fire and blitzing the crap out of brees.

Pats would get two very deep drives in the 2nd half, while totally shutting down the Saints offense. Saints defense would answer the call though, and as a group was the difference in the game. Saints held both of the Pats long drives to just fgs to make it 21-13 at half.

Saints offense just died after the first quarter as the Pats very aggressive defense caused havoc for brees all day long. The only scoring in the 3rd quarter was from the Pats Taylor who broke a long 51 yard td romp to make it 21-21 after a 2 pt conversion. The tide had turned and the Saints were left thinking 'not again' and 'what if'. this was the game that would have ended the saints bleak playoff hopes.

towards the end of the 3rd the pats get the ball back. On a 3rd down call Saints sniff out a screen to Welker, but Welker breaks 3 tackles and takes it to the house to start the 4th quarter with a 42 yard td pass. 28-21 Pats.

Lucky for the Saints this would ignite the team, and wake the sleeping stagnant saints offense up.

saints would answer with a great drive of their own, getting westbrook and brees rolling again. This drive was capped off with a 5 yard run from westbrook to give him his 3rd and last td of the day. 28-28 ball game.

Saints defense would get another pick of brady, making it 4 on the day. This time the saints would make the pats pay as henderson takes his own screen play 19 yards for the score and leave just over 2 mins in the game to play. 35-28 Saints.

Pats would get the ball and begin their long trek to the endzone. Pass after pass, brady was just chipping away at the saints defense. On a 3rd and goal with just 15 seconds left in the game, brady would call a post out from his te in the back of the endzone. Ex-Pats MLB Guyton would sniff the play out and step in front of the pass and pick it off in the back of the endzone.

Saints would pull off a very unexpected win of the mighty pats, 35 - 28!

Saints picked up a HUGE win vs a extremely strong Pats team. Next week the task doesnt get any easier as the Saints travel to the Redskins for a huge matchup of two teams struggling to keep OMFLPlayoff hopes alive!

    Player of the game:
    RB - Westbrook
Even though all the saints defense was given a game ball, westbrook proved to be the difference maker with 3 tds. Westbrook ended the day with only 14 carries, but a huge 78 yards.
