Chargers escape South Beach Shootout with a victory.

The crowd at Sun Life Stadium was in for a treat as the defenses for both teams stayed in their hotel rooms for gameday. The 1st quarter saw the visiting Chargers control most of the clock, marching downfield and completing crucial third downs (11-14 on the day) that would lead to the first score of the game by TE Owen Daniels in the redzone. Miami would stall on their first drive and be forced to punt. Chargers HB Darren Sproles would fumble on the ensuing toss play, Miami recovers with great field position. Chad Henne would find TE Bible wide open in the endzone due to bad coverage by FS Reggie Nelson, and Miami is back in business tying the 7-7 to end the 1st quarter.

2nd quarter would see the Chargers offense get their ground game going lead by LT picking up the tough yards inside, a 20yd scamper by newly acquired HB Kevin Smith would set the Chargers offense in the redzone, where QB Phillip Rivers would find TE Owen Daniels again for the score, 14-7 SD. Miami would strike back in a flash as HB Shagg Mankino would return the kickoff 103yds to nod the game at 14.
San Diego would answer back with another time consuming drive, ending with a LT 2yd run to close out the 1st half 21-14.

Dolphins receive in the second half, and HB Shagg Mankino would thrash the Chargers defense with a 65yd dash on a 2nd down toss play, 21-21. Chargers would respond as the did all game with another solid drive ending with QB Phillip Rivers finding TE Owen Daniels on a bootleg for a 32yd TD. 28-21 SD. Miami would put together their first double digit play drive following the Daniels score but would have to settle for a FG, when QB Henne's 3rd down pass was knocked down at the line by Chargers DE Vaughn Martin to close out the 3rd. 28-24 SD.

Miami Defense still with no answer for the Charges offense would once again surrender a TD to TE Owen Daniels this time from 7yds out, 35-24 SD. While Charges Defense would once again get burned for the big play as QB Chad Henne would recognize a Charger blitz and hit hot receiver HB Ronnie Brown over the middle, Brown would bolt for an 80yd TD, giving new life for the Dolphins midway through the 4th, 35-30 SD. In what would be the turning point in the game, Miami's defense would show life for one drive and force a Charger punt but returner HB Shagg Mankino would fumble after being thump by MLB Kevin Burnett, the fumble would be picked up by CB Antwann Molden and returned 28yds for a Charger score, 42-30 SD. Miami would no lose any fight and would score with rather ease and convert the 2pt conversion to bring the withn 3, 42-38 SD. Chargers would however recover the onside kick, and run the clock out after converting its final and most crucial 3rd down possession. Final score 42-38 SD.

Chargers now 2-0 will go into their bye week (wtf), while the Dolphins stay in Dade to welcome another AFC West opponent, the Oakland Raiders.
