WK1 Vikings 23 at Patriots 35 Moss and Butler get the best of the defending champ Vikings. Foxboro, MA Moss Celebrates on 67 yard TD pass from Brady in the 4th. New England would open their season at a packed Gillette Stadium vs the defending OMFL champs Minnesota Vikings. This would turn out to be a ugly game by both teams as they committed 5 turnovers each the first being on a fumble by Wilhite on the opening kickoff that would give Minnesota the ball deep in New England territory. From there flashes of Peterson was hitting the Patriots in heavy doses which got the Vikings 5 yards from scoring range. On this same drive Peterson would leave the game with an injury that will hold him out for 4 weeks and from there the Vikings offense failed to score and had to settle for a FG (3-0). New England would respond as Brady would find Watson towards the sideline for a 53 yard TD catch to put the Pats up (7-3). Patriots defense was playing solid all game keeping the Vikings out of the endzone and holding them to field goals early. The Vikings also had the clamps on the Randy Moss early but in the 2nd half he exploded for 2 scores finishing with 4 catches for 186 yard and 2 scores, one of the touchdowns was a 67 yard bomb one on one against Champ Bailey. The running of Frank Gore was the reason why Randy Moss was see one on one coverage vs. Bailey and Brady took advantage of it. Second year corner Darius Butler made his bid for Defensive Player of the Year picking off Pennington 3 times and taking 1 back for a score. Vikings would rally late in the 4th but could not convert on a late 4th and goal to bring them within 4 as Brady would kneel it out to end the game. Vikings will head to Detroit to deal with life without Peterson for a while and the Patriots will get ready to host division rival Miami next week. GG Vikings sorry about the injuries. Darius Butler speaks to media after his first start in which he had 3 Int and 1 Int TD.
