I'm not sure , the stupid kinnect would not let me change the got damn channel so I couldn't tell you
Go to settings and calibrate your TV, there is also some RGB settings that will improve your picture as well.
I haven't noticed your exact issue, but I think running it through the Xbox and watching TV on full screen, the picture isn't as good as you normally would have it through your cable. I've noticed a little blur and lack of picture quality (I think) when I watch through the x1. I've since set up my surround sound with everything running through my Denon receiver now. Sound quality is real nice in the little I played of FIFA w/ surround. Crowd sounds great....
I'll give my opinion Overall the X1 feels smoother though the Home screen can get a bit...jumbled. You can't use ANY apps if you are offline (which I was the other night) but I believe that's just because most, if not all, of them require you to be online. I like the fact that I can be watching Netflix or playing a game and hit home and I don't lose my place, I can just pick up where I left off. I have not fully explored the snap feature but I have heard great things. I did hook up my DirecTV box to the X1 and it works as promised. I can tell my console to turn the channel and it does. The One Guide I have not delved into because I find I like the picture on my TV from the DirecTV box rather than feeding it through my console. That and I don't see the point of running two machines for the sake of one purpose, especially when DTV charges me for the box. Games Madden - I immediately felt a difference. Defense works. Run Game works and you cannot be all pass happy like in the 360. Read Option CAN be stopped. Moon and I played a scrimmage and I was able to user the DE, read the QB was going to keep it and sacked for a loss instead of being ragdolled. BF4 - Unfortunately I haven't been able to jump into it yet. Plan to soon. Dead Rising - Haven't gotten too far. I agree the graphics could be better but I played the first two DR and the zombies were quite underpowered. They are a bit more tough in this one. If you get jumped by one you better shake them quick or you are screwed. Even if you throw them off, a bite quickly kills. And finally, I've mentioned this in the CB, but the Kinect works well with this game. I was playing the first level, nearly snuck past a couple, sneezed and the sensor heard it, alerting the zombies nearby (along with some I hadn't previously seen).
In the spirit of full disclosure, I’ve been playing the PS4 since launch, and all of the multiplatform games I have for the PS4. I just purchased the X1 Friday, and only purchased the exclusives for it. Hopefully I don't let I Peench down Design and Controller The X1 is a big piece of hardware, but it’s one big, sexy bitch. I really like the look of the console. The Kinect is also solidly designed. The original Kinect felt fragile and toy like. Kinect 2.0 feels like a solid piece of electronic equipment. The 360 controller was the best controller I’ve ever used, minus the D-pad. The X1 makes slight adjustments, the biggest plus being a good D-pad. I like the rumble triggers, although Forza is the only game I’ve seen them used. It gives braking and accelerating feedback you can feel. Unfortunately, the one big minus for me is the analog sticks. They seem loose, which I’m not happy with. Interface This is where I have my biggest problems with the X1. It is the antithesis of intuitive. They’ve made it so difficult, or at the very least far more cumbersome, to find anything. I feel like I need to take a night class to figure the damn thing out. Now apparently using voice commands makes getting to things easier than using a controller, but I do not want to use the voice commands. I feel like an ass, and my wife looks at me like I’m one, when I randomly call out to the X1. I would like to use smart glass with my X1, but I can’t find the option to connect it to my X1. Another example is party chat. After I send someone a party chat invite, I still have to “turn on” party chat. Why in the hell is this necessary. Obviously I want to chat in the party, I sent out (or accepted) the invite. All of this is quite different from my experience with the PS4. It is very intuitive. As an example, I was about to play my friend in NBA2K, and another friend asked me to broadcast it so he could watch. I told him I would try, but I had never used the feature before. I wasn’t sure if I could get it to work. I hit the share button, and two choices came up: record and broadcast. I chose broadcast, and I was broadcasting. That was it, simple and intuitive, and it's one of things I love most about my PS4. Now this is not a big concern, because it’s nothing an update won’t fix. I know the interface I use now with my X1 will be far different a year or two from now. However, right now it’s confusing and difficult to use. Another big minus for me is the install times for games. The X1 reminds me of the PS3 when it comes to install times. I come home all excited, ready to play my new game, and….my excitement is tempered by a 30 minute install. This would not be a big deal as the install times are similar to last gen. However, when compared to the PS4 it’s damn sure slow. Ryse pissed me off, because it said "ready to play" after a short install. However, all it did was allow me to change game settings. After that I had to stare at an install bar for 30 minutes. I have not connected my TV through the X1 for several reasons. The biggest being I’ve read complaints from several people who say it degrades the picture quality. That’s a deal breaker for me. Even without that, the difficulty of using the interface makes me not want to fool with the X1 outside of playing games. Games Forza is similar to previous iterations, which is a good thing. However, some of the changes they’ve made weren’t for the best. I don’t like having to buy all the new cars I get. Forza used to give you new cars when you leveled up. I preferred that set up better. Also, while Driveatar is a novel idea, it has its drawbacks. The AI being based on real people, means it's based not only on how actual driving fans play, but also on how online douchebags play. The CPU often turns into demolition derby as they run into your car far too often. Ryse is a beautiful game. Some people say it’s the best looking next-gen launch game. I’ve played Killzone, and I think both are gorgeous games. If someone wants to tell me Ryse is the best looking game, I wouldn’t argue with them. However, I wouldn’t argue with anyone who said the same thing about Killzone. Ryse’s combat is far too repetitive. There is very little variation in the enemies, weapons, and combat. It reminds me of a God of War clone. However, it lacks the variety of enemies, weapons, and combos that make GoW great. Dead Rising 3 is a lot of fun. I’m really glad they changed the save structure of the game. The old system kept me from playing the first two for very long, even though I bought both. Graphically, Dead Rising 3 looks last gen. In fact games like The Last of Us look better than DR3. What is impressive is the amount of zombies they have on screen at any one time. It's fun creating the new weapons and seeing how they're used. Of the 3 games I purchased, this is definitely my favorite. Verdict Overall, I’m happy with the system. A lot of the gripes I have about the system will iron themselves out over the years with updates. I still love my PS4 system much more though. For the foreseeable future, my PS4 will be my system of choice, and the X1 will be used just for exclusives.
It's funny, I think the Xbox One is very intuitive. I regularly use the voice commands (as do my daughter and after getting her past the "I'm talking to the TV" issue, so does my fiance). Of course, I used to do the same on my Xbox 360. The SmartGlass option is under settings (Devices), which is where I would expect it to be. I have both systems and since I've gotten the Xbox One the PS4 has collected dust. As for your game reviews, my favorite game so far has been Forza 5 (though FIFA is right up there). The Drivatar feature is pretty cool, it's fun to race against your friends AI. For example, I regularly race against jms493, Roggie, Raidernation, etc. There is a huge difference between the three racers. jms493 is smooth and patient. Roggie just barrels around, going way too fast into turns, and Raidernation is very quick but aggressive in his lines. Creating something that differentiates between people like that, as well as shares their cars and paint so they are ingrained in your experience is pretty impressive, and excites me for the future of the Xbox One.
Thanks man! Really great response, and much appreciated. I'm getting both as well, but struggling to figure out which to get first. Has PSN been solid? (aside from the two crashes)
PSN has been fine. Only issues have been with Battlefield, but that's an issue with EA across all platforms.
I don't really barrel around. Lol. I always drive FWD cars so I can just outbrake people going into corners and still have decent exit speed. That's how I pass 95% of the time due to my car being slower in nature. But I doubt that Drivatars are that in depth to understand that, so it makes it look like I drive like a total asshole when in reality, I avoid contact.
I'll look again. I saw all kinds of options under settings, billing, display, etc, but I didn't see devices. I've been told using the voice commands makes things easier, but I don't want to use them, and often times can't without disturbing my wife.
Hahaha .... The more you drive the closer it is to mimicking your style of racing. I'm a level twenty and still 30% synced as far as my Drivatar goes. I think Shaun's assessment is pretty spot on out side my logic for each individual track. I try not to hold the same line but it's often dictated by the pile-ups at the first few turns. I'd like to add some of you in order to add to the overall experience so look out for requests. It's those Drivatar battles that have me opting for Forza over B4.... that and snipers. As for Smartglass, dj illmatic 23 make sure that your device is on wifi (I am using my G Note) on my first X1 I remember using the menu option trying to figure it out but when I got my second X1 it synced right away with my wifi turned on no menu surfing.
I have had zero issues with psn as a whole. The launch day overloads were the only issues. Other than that runs smoothly and the OS of the ps4 far exceeds the ps3. That being said I will purchase an X1 at a later date for the X1 only titles.
It's still early, it will definitely improve over time. Does anyone remember the first version of the 360 Xbox live UI? Totally different from what it is now, they most likely are relying on the ability to update through feed back. PS4 basically mimicked the Live dash in a way, they just added a touch of Sony to it and people are loving it. I think once they bring back themed backgrounds it will be less noticable.
Anybody played AC Black Flag ? Looks nice from videos I have seen but I haven't played an AC game since 2.
I played Assassins Creed 3 multiplayer and it's the shit. If you get a group of people together and all play sneaky instead of running through the map, you get some awesome assassinations and shit.
It was meh - parts of it I enjoyed but the whole animus facet of the story always seemed to slow down any momentum I had going. Graphics are pretty badass on the 360, would imagine they're crazy on next gen. Unless you're desperate to play something, I'd wait a few months. Games like those usually get a substantial price drop.
