FT. THOMAS-- Taking the field as underdogs in their first game under the new coaching staff, the Rams fell just short of the Cavaliers of Virginia. Defense, thought to be a fairly strong suit of this season's edition of CSU football, was nowhere to be found, allowing 44 points to the ACC squad. The Rams couldn't stop the run or the pass, as UVA QB Ross Metheny completed 27 of 39 passes for 402 yards and 2 touchdowns and HB Perry Jones carried 21 times for 78 yards. While the Cavs didn't turn the ball over at all, sophomore QB Pete Thomas threw three interceptions. This one looked to be a laugher early, but the Rams bounced back, showing true character in losing by just 8 points after a Thomas redzone interception following an onside kick sealed the deal for Virginia. Thomas showed promise, completing 29 passes for a school record 574 yards. Turnovers killed any chance of a rally, as Thomas was forced to throw nearly every down to keep the team in the game and made some key mistakes. Four Ram receivers accumulated over 100 yards, with Marquise Law tipping the scales with seven catches for 150 yards. Colorado state will look to rebound next week when it hosts Mountain West foe New Mexico.

Ruston, LA - The 2011-2012 season opened up with the Bulldogs falling at home by a score of 66-31 and the hands of the SMU Mustangs, or should we say the arm of Kyle Padron. Padron scorched the Dogs for 560 yards and 7 TD. Tech started the game off well with a fumble return for a TD, but were virtually out of it by the middle of the third quarter. "We saw some good things, and some not so good things out there today," said Coach E "It's going to be a process, but I am still confident we can get ourselves to a bowl game at the end of the year." WR Andrew Guillot lead the Bulldogs with 7 catches for 110 yards. Louisiana will travel and take on Southern Miss next week.

Arkansas State falls in the season opener to Hawaii 45-34. Although there were lots of high points in the game the staff feels there were more things that could have been done better. The Red Wolves look to rebound next week even though it will be against the B1G Illinois.

Will post stats a little later

    Self Inflected Mistakes Doom Trojans

The Trojans opened the season against the Ole Miss Rebels looking to show the SEC and the rest of the world they were ready for prime time. Unfortunately for Troy by halftime it was very apparent that the Trojans still have a long way to go before they can go toe to toe with the big boys. After picking up one first down on their opening series the Trojans were forced to punt which was the start of bad things to come. After forcing a 3rd and 8 the Rebels setup a screen to Bolden who caught the pass, broke 2 tackles and rambled 79 yards for the first score of the day. Things got even worse on the Trojans next possession as QB Corey Robinson was knocked out of the game after scrambling for 15 yards but fumbled as he was hit. The Trojans stiffened and held the Rebels to a FG but the excitement that started the game was quickly disappearing. In the 2nd qtr Troy cut the lead to 10-3 but 17 unanswered point by Ole Miss ensured there would be no upset this day. The one bright spot for the Trojans was the defense held the Rebels to 3 points int eh 2nd half and the defense scored on a 97 yard interception. The Trojans have little time to feel sorry for themselves as they must now travel to Death Valley and face the Clemson Tigers.

    ND Toys with CMU.

Mt. Pleasant, Michigan -- The return of Brian Kelly to Kelly shorts was one he won't forget. His Fighting Irish were able to run over, literally, the Chippewas. Scoring 59 points in the first three quarters, ND was able to take it's foot off the gas in the fourth. Had they not, they might of ran, literally again, for over 100 points in the game. It was ugly.

After the game, Coach Dream had this to say. "We got our asses kicked. Getting a holding call against us every time we did almost anything didn't help. Congrats to Coach Kelly. He's one of Centrals best coaches ever. I'd like to see them in a few years after I fix what Enos has destroyed here."

The Vandals fall in their season opener against Duke, Offensively, fans and coaches were delighted with the big play potential of Coach Maij's "Desert Eagle" offense scoring 28 points. Defensively, the Vandals had moments forcing 3 turnovers and grabbing 4 sacks, but could not get off the field on third down, which would keep many drives alive for the Blue Devils. Idaho and Coach Maij will look for improvement next week when the Vandals host the Eagles of Bowling Green.

Golden Eagles escape with season opener against in state foe
    [IMG]

HATTIESBURG (AP) -- Big plays, big plays, big plays... with the recent switch from a spread no-huddle to a more conservative pro style offense everyone was crying fowl that So Miss would lack the big play ability. All the na sayers were wrong. The key to victory today was the big play and the Golden Eagles were able to make it on all 3 fronts of the game. First QB Austin Davis was able to hit a streaking WR Kelvin Bolden for a 64 yard TD strike, then return specialist William Spight was able to make his mark on the game by taking back a kickoff 101 yards to pay dirt, and lastly CB Deron Wilson was able to step infront of a deep in route and take it 44 yards back to the house .

The Aztecs were very excited to get on the field for their new coach but that was quickly extinguished when Tulsa went up early 17-0. We were trying our best to get back into the game but every time we got close Tulsa would make a unbelievable defensive play. Case and point with 5 minutes left in the game we were driving and where in FG range but I dropped back to pass and saw a open guy over the middle and proceeded to pass it to him but Tulsa's defensive tackle yes DT jumps up and makes a unbelievable one handed pick to seal the game. I ended up with 5 turnovers 4 picks and a fumble and the the end of the game.

The FAU OWLS opened up their season hosting the Utah Utes, and from the first play of the game, the Utes manhandled the Owls. They took the first play to the house, only to have it called back by holding, but made up for it on the second play with another long run.

Bright spots for the Owls were the D-Line which generated constant pressure, however when the Owls weren't bringing the heat, they made numerous open field tackling mistakes.

In the end the Owls were outmanned 38-7 in a game that might have been a little close than the s ore indicated.
