The Minutemen of UMass traveled to Palo Alto, California in hopes of an upset against #20 ranked Stanford. After 1 quarter the score stood at 7-7, with hopes still alive, but those hopes were soon crushed as the Cardinals turned on the jets and destroyed the Minutemen. The story of the game was Stanford's HB Stepfan Taylor who broke the NCAA record for rushing yards in a game turning in 26 carries for 419 yards and 5 TD. The Minutemen will look to rebound next week against another tough opponent in Utah. The final in Palo Alto was Stanford 52, UMass 20.

MANHATTAN, Kansas -- It didn't take but a couple seconds for UTSA to realize that they are playing with the big boys now. Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium was rocking and right from the kick off the Roadrunners were smacked in the mouth. "It's rough. Kansas State is a program on the rise and it was our first FBS game so most of the kids weren't sure what to expect. We held in there early, but their depth and athleticism was to much. I saw a lot of great things out there and can't wait to get back out and work on what we need to work on."

    Fau Loses to Fsu.

Fau came into the game knowing they were heavy underdogs as they tried to make a game of it vs the Noles. Fsu struck 1st as they drove down the field as they even went for it on a 4th and 5 on the 1st series of the game. It led to a Seminoles Td as they went up 7-0. Fau came back and drove the ball down the field with a good mixture of run and pass and Punched it in on a Td pass to the Te and the game was knotted up at 7 all. Then just as quick Fsu was driving down the field when the clock ran out on the 1st quarter. Fsu then started to establish their dominance as they were beginning to crack the Owls front line as Thompson and Manual found open runnng lanes as Manuel then ran it in the end zone as Fsu took back the lead 14-7. The rest of the half was a defensive battle as neither side gave way. Fsu had a chance to extend their lead near the half as the kicker missed a fg to the left as the clock ran out on the Half.

Fau felt really good at hanging with the big boys so far, and hoped to continue their good play vs the Noles D. Fau took the ball 2nd half and went 3 and out on the 1st drive. Fsu then passed with ease as Manual then found his receiver Shaw for a Td and Fsu continued to lead 21-7. Fau then put on their most impressive drive yet as they put together an 11 play drive to get it down to the 6. Then got nailed for a delay of game and then had to settle for a fg and trimmed the lead to 21-10 as the 3rd quarter wound down.

4th quarter was all Seminoles as they completely wore out the Owls defense as they found running lanes very easy and passing with plenty of protection. Fsu tacked on 2 more scores as they went up 35-10. Fau just ran out of gas as most of the 4th quarter both defense and offense personnal were in the red. Even with the Loss Fau is proud of the way they played today. Coach Taylor said this "we were just outmanned the entire game. we lost to a much better team today and I hope we continue to improve as we kickoff the Sun Belt Conference games next week".

Fau opens Sun Belt play on the road as they battle Middle Tennessee St.

    Clemson Downs MTSU 31-7

Clemson used the big play and quick drives to put away a gritty MTSU team 31-7 at home. The Blue Raiders fought hard in the first half and kept it close until a errant pass quickly lead to a Clemson score before the half and permanently turned the momentum in the Tigers favor. MTSU actually controlled the clock, but couldn't avoid turnovers and couldn't stop Clemson on critical 3rd downs. Coach Bishop spoke briefly to the media after his first game as a head coach. "I don't want any moral victories. I'm looking for wins here at MTSU. I wouldn't have taken the job if I didn't think we could compete with the Clemsons of the world."

    Kent State - 10
    #18 Ohio State - 31
The Golden Flashes were unable to overcome three pick 6's as the fell 31-10 to 18th ranked Ohio State. The worst one came with less than a minute remaining when the Kent St QB mis-calcuated the closing speed of the Buckeye safety and was picked at the OSU 12 yard line while trailing 17-10. To rub salt in the wound the Buckeyes returned another errant throw on the last play of the game to make the final 31-10.

Buffalo Gives Texas Their Best Shot, Come Up Short
Jerry Davis Shows His Potential Against The Best
    texas1.png

The Buffalo Bulls marched into Texas to open the season as massive underdogs against the Longhorns. Senior QB Jerry Davis(283 Pass Yards, 87 Rush Yards, 3 combined TDs) got the start and he came up big as he was unaffected by the hostile fans at DKR-Memorial. Buffalo got the ball first and were able to move down the field fairly easily. They ended up stalling deep in Texas territory though and had to settle for a FG and a 3-0 lead.

From there, the game turned into a defensive battle. Neither team could get anything going until the middle of the 2nd quarter when the Bulls got into scoring position again. Facing into the wind, Buffalo attempted a 48 yard FG that nailed the crossbar to leave the score at 3-0. That seemed to wake Texas up though as their offense started to click. They would get on the board for the first time inside of 2 minutes with a 41 yard FG to make it 3-3. But after a 3'n'out for Buffalo, Texas came storming back and took a 6-3 lead just before the half. The Bulls got a decent kick return though so their coach decided to give a deep pass a shot just before the half and it worked. Davis hit WR Alex Neutz for a TD to take a 10-6 lead into the half.

Texas owned the 2nd half though behind a dominant running performance by RB Malcolm Brown(277 Rush Yards, 3 TDs). Their first score of the half though came on a deep pass from QB David Ash to WR Jaxon Shipley, little brother of former Texas star Jordan Shipley, for 56 yards. Buffalo just couldn't keep it up against their stellar defense as Texas pulled out a 20-10 lead entering the 4th.

Buffalo wouldn't be shut down though as they showed their resolve. First, they were able to tack on a FG to make it 20-13. Then, they were able to stop Texas for what seemed like the first time this half. After that, Jerry Davis came up clutch. He would take a read option 55 yards for a TD to potentially tie the game with just over 2 minutes remaining. Buffalo's HC had other thoughts though as the Bulls would go for 2 and the win. The pass from Davis would get tipped at the LOS though for an unsuccessful conversion to make it just 20-19.

Buffalo would go for the onside with just 1 TO remaining, but Texas would recover. While running out the clock, Malcolm Brown would break through and Buffalo would let him to as Texas took a 27-19 lead. The Bulls got the ball back and would turn it over on downs. Texas was apparently looking to make a statement though as, instead of simply kneeing out the game for the win, they went to put more points on the board and got them as Brown got another TD to make it 34-19. The Bulls still wouldn't say die though as they got another deep pass just before the half to make it 34-26. They would attempt one more onside kick but it wouldn't work either as Texas would get the victory.

For the first 11 minutes and 30 seconds of the first half Akron was giving the Hogs a true test but then all hell broke loose. QB Clayton Moore threw a pick 6 to Alonzo Highsmith with 26 seconds left to go in the half to make it 24 to 7 Arkansas. The closest the Zips would be able to get was 31 to 17 but then Arkansas went on to close out the game with 24 unanswered points.
