Quarterback was the biggest question mark for the Baylor Bears entering the season.
Senior Nick Florence answered the call with style, breaking single-game school records in the opener.

WACO, TX--With Offensive Coordinator Philip Montgomery and sensation Robert Griffin III no longer on campus, all eyes were on the Baylor offense. Coming off of an 8-5 season, Baylor fans were optimistic heading into last spring, but things took a turn for the worse as Montgomery left for a head coaching position and Griffin took his talents to the first round of the NFL draft. In comes former Colorado State Head Coach and relative nobody Nick Berta. Berta made huge news when he announced that he would indeed stick to the no-huddle offense while abandoning the exclusively shotgun look Baylor fans had grown accustomed to. Opening with Virginia Tech, there was no room for error...and there were very few errors. The offense torched the stout Hokie defense. QB Nick Florence completed 14 of 20 passes for a whopping 446 yards and 5 touchdowns, breaking single-game marks for Baylor quarterbacks. Senior RB Jarred Salubi rushed 27 times for 144 yards, adding a touchdown of his own. Tevin Reese and Terrance Williams both cashed in twice through the air, with Reese's 4 catches for 175 yards and Williams's 3 catches for 145 yards. The offense looked potent in this one-game sampling, and the Bears will be lucky to hold onto Berta if things continue this way. Traveling to Tulane next week, Baylor fans have a renewed sense of hope in the program.

In a amazing OT victory for the Aztecs Hillman was able to led them with 2 TDs on the ground and the game winning TD through the air. SDSU has a bye next week and will get prepared for BYU and then a 3 user game stretch.

    Southern Miss 7 - Washington 10

Its a new year and the Golden Eagles started it the same way they ended last year, with a loss. It was chaos on both sides of the ball as Southern Miss looked flat out confused and all around unfamilar with what was going on. Coach ChaoticUT was trying to throw some new wrinkles in the defensive and offensive gameplan for the year, but after a horrible outting the Golden Eagles might revert back to what was working well for them last year, vanilla defense and smash mouth football on offense. They better get things clicking by next week as they take on a hungry La Tech team that was handed a lost a year ago from the Golden Eagles.

The Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech started their season off with an ugly win against the Boilermakers of Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. The Louisiana Tech Offense was non-existent essentially the entire game, and it would be their Special Teams and Defense that would step up and make the plays necessary to keep the Bulldogs in the game. A 101 yard kickoff return during the first possession and an interception return for a touchdown later in the game would turn out to be the defining plays of the game, as Tech hit a 32 yard field goal as time expired to seal the deal. Louisiana Tech will take on Southern Miss next week as they hope to avenge last seasons loss.

    Louisiana Tech - 24
    Purdue - 21

Arkansas State drops season opener to Arizona State in Double Overtime 41-38
Coach Sabo had this to say in the post game press conference
"Today we played a great game and fell short. After our season last year we were heavy underdogs to our BCS conference opponents but the game was ours to win. We made some mistakes and showed some signs of early season jitters. We will bounce back from this loss and look to take it to Texas this week."

Trojans Need OT To Earn Win Over Eastern Michigan

Troy despite dominating the time of possession needed OT to get the win. An untimely turnover just before half turned a potential easy win for Troy into a dogfight in the 2nd half.

Tough opening loss for the reimagined Cyclone defense as missed tackles would lead to 2 scores. The Cyclone offense would struggle all day. New DC Coach Maij commented after the game that the defense was in the right position but plays needed to be made by the playmakers on defense. Look for a tough practice next week as the Cyclone defense prepares for Central Michigan.
