-COUGARS CONTINUE WINNING WAYS IN 2012-

    [IMG][IMG]

PROVO, UTAH-- The Brigham Young University Cougars have started the 2012 season right where they left off in '11: with a win. Coming off an 11-2 season, Coach Berta made major changes to the offensive philosophy, and they paid off. With national title hopes, BYU honored the school's lone National Champion team, dawning the royal blue uniforms of the 1984 team. While BYU was outgained by Ohio's 202 yards, the numbers don't serve the Cougars' performance justice. BYU jumped out to an early lead and pounded the rock, deploying a stable of four halfbacks (including three true freshman). California-native Johnny Kendrick saw the bulk of the workload, rushing 17 times for 87 yards. Freshman Chris McFadden, younger brother of Darren McFadden, bolstered the return game with returns topping out with a 48 yard punt return and a 97 yard missed field goal return. Defensively, freshman free safety Jeremy Sims led the Cougars in pursuit with 10 tackles (2 TFL). Sims added two interceptions, returning one 82 yards for a touchdown. With 6 different players recording sacks, BYU's pass rush, a weakness last year, looks to be improved. As Coach Berta aptly put it, "the future is bright at BYU." The program is on its way up, and recruits should "get with the program while they can."

Bruins escape late in Boulder. UCLA might have been affected by the elevation, but more than likely is was the inexperience of road play as the Bruins open the season with a conference win in Boulder. RS-Fr. QB Brett Hundley made his debut as a Bruin and it was a dandy, going 16-22 for 287yds and 3 scores, Hundley also threw two interceptions in the redzone, but overall showed great poise in a hostile environment. Jr. WR Randall Carroll would be the benefactor of Hundley's great day torching the CU secondary for186yds on 6 receptions and two scores. UCLA's running game could not get it going consistently against the Buffs front seven but did notch 119yds and two scores on the ground with the Bruin law firm of HB's Franklin, Jones and James. Defensively it was a tale of two halfs as the inexperience in the front seven would show as CU HB Trey Jones would gash the defense to the tune of 144yds and 2tds. UCLA would rebound in the second half forcing three tunovers to put the game away.

    UCLA Game Stats
    B. Hundley 16-22 287yds 3tds 2ints
    M. Jones 7car 69yds 1td
    R. Carroll 6rec 186yds 2tds
    D. Jones 13TT 5TFL 4SCK 1FF

    Michigan PIMP SMACKS ISU.

ISU QB wishes their AD didn't schedule this game. In an effort to keep the pass rush off their QB, ISU ran some screens, only to see their QB try to run for his life to get away from the defenders, only to end up getting smacked again. Were looking for an offense. We've brought in some new formations for this season, we'll see how it goes. I think we'll be about as good as last year.

    28-3 MICHIGAN

In rivalry that began last year Notre Dame goes to Florida and takes revenge for last years lost. Florida state put up the only points of the 1st half by taking the opening drive and methodically working their way down the field to score. After a punt by Notre Dame, FSU was driving down the field when the defense for a pick and the took it to the house for six. My defense bowed up and forced a punt so we started to drive and break a huge 81 yd td run by QB Best off the option. FSU was able to put up another td and add a fg at the end of the half to take the lead 17-14. I was able to drive on my first drive but was halted by a beasting FSU defense stuffed us on the goaline. FSU could not get anything going and gave us the ball back were we connected on a 32 yd td pass to take and keep the lead because the defenses ruled the rest of the way.

The Ducks game out and dominated the #10 Oklahoma Sooners in one of the most anticipated matchups of week 1. The Ducks came out sporting their carbon helmets, steel pants, and black jerseys and that got the crowd fired up from the get go, not that they need any addiitonal motivation for such a huge game, in week 1. The Ducks were led on offense by running back Dejon Barner, who rushed for about 170 yards in the game. Oklahoma had no solution to the Ducks running game. QB Bryan Bennet played well but left room for improvement, he overthrough a couple of open defenders which would have been sure touchdowns.

The Ducks D came out right where they left off last year, reaking havoc. The Ducks gave up a couple of big plays, but came up with even bigger plays when it counted. The loan OU score came on bloan coverage, while the Ducks were blitzing, and I could have walked the ball in for the score. The Ducks have another tough game in week 2 as the LSU Tigers come to town.

My highlights froze again during upload, which really pisses me off, but in the grand scheme of things, at least I didn't get a TF.
