Auburn is used to playing second fiddle to the Tide, the ugly step child of the west means business this year. Now that Coach Ego has established himself as a contender in the SEC, and with one full year of experience under his belt on the plains, the War Eagle nation is ready for this team to take the next step.
After an injury to end his junior season, Brad Freeman returns to lead the offense. He was highly successful during his PT last season and looks to build from that. Senior HB Brad Pickens was ready to leave the program after the 2013 season after the coaching change, but Coach Ego showed him how he would be used in the running game and Pickens is now glad he stayed. His draft stocked has soared under the new offense. With Pickens in the backfield, defenses will have to respect the running game which will open up the passing game for Freeman.
Defensively, the Tigers don’t match up as well as they do on the offensive side, but they are young and the 4-2-5 scheme that Coach EGO has implemented will help even the playing field. Although this team is very good and well coached, it may be a few more years before they can compete with the big boys up the street.
